Every week Sue from ‘A Word in Your Ear’ dips into her English Oxford dictionary and picks a word on the page that it falls open at. The challenge is to post a photograph, poem, story – whatever the genre you like best to describe what that word means to you.
This week’s challenge is FIGURE (click to join in with the challenge)

The definition of FIGURE can be several things including a mathematical symbol, a person (especially a well-known one), a shape or mathematical plane (e.g. a triangle), a person, animal or object that symbolizes something or a pictorial or sculptural representation, especially of the human body.

I love the figures that are used to indicate danger on hiking trails. I hope you do too 🙂

I love these signs, Jude. The figures are supposed to represent scary situations, but they look humorous. How ironic. 🙂
Yes! That’s why I can’t resist photographing them. They are so amusing, yet the graphic way they show what might happen totally puts me off continuing on my way!
That’s for sure! 🙂
That last one’s a gem, Jude 🙂
Glad you enjoy them Jo 🙂
Great sign Jude. It is very graphic of the danger. I have never seen this one but I know of a number of places that should display one.
Ron
Hi Ron 🙂
I find them very amusing, so graphic that they often put me off going any further – which is the intent I guess!
The one heading straight down, on the wooden sign, is an absolute classic. Good one Jude.
Regards as always, Pete. x
I must confess to laughing at that one, why head first? It was taken close to Skomer Island in Pembrokeshire on an incredibly windy day and I could imagine being blown off the cliff, but diving off? Maybe not.
I did keep well away from the edge though.
Love these pics Jude. PS Aren’t you glad you didn’t move to Penzance now? Can’t believe how much rain we keep having in Somerset, never mind Cornwall 😦
I must admit to having second thoughts about the south-west now if this is the way winters of the future are going to be like!
It has been ridiculous this year but it is wet here at the best of times…
Thanks for the laugh!
I’m happy to oblige!
Great take on the challenge, Jude. 😀 Those figures really look to be in trouble.
Yup! They are falling all over the place 😉
Great interpretation. Like catbird I find them humorous too
Thanks PP – it was lovely to have a challenge to share these images!
Love it , I missed this one!
Thanks K. I love these figures too 😀
Me tooooo!
Jude these are hilarious. I would think such signs would scare some folks straight back to the parking lot! I think it is a fabulous take on the theme.
I confess that I did hold back from that cliff edge!
With a sign like that who wouldn’t?!
