Day Six

The theme for Becky’s  April Squares challenge is ‘top’

    1. On Top of the World – summit, crown, peak or uppermost part of something
    2. Under the Big Top – topping or covering (or if you’re really lucky circus)
    3. Room at the Top – first or highest in position
    4. Cherry on Top – something made even more wonderful by becoming square
    5. Top and Tail – or maybe you’d prefer to play around with word combinations such as top dog, top stitch, top full, top line, top fruit, top hat, top secret, top knot, top drawer and top dollar!
on top of the world

Rocking stones (also known as logan stones or logans) are large stones that are so finely balanced that the application of just a small force causes them to rock. This one sits on top of Trencrom Hill. I’m not sure that this one actually does rock, but it is definitely precariously balanced.

There is a more famous one near Treen, Porthcurno.

Heyjude

I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

      1. Alas, it wasn’t a boulder but a large and very tall tree that proved unstable. It came crashing down on her house in a storm eight years ago, leaving her with a broken rib. That shows how close she came to getting killed. The house was damaged badly enough that she and her husband used their insurance money to move to another house in the neighborhood and sold the damaged house to a developer to be reconstructed.

    1. How odd – just fished you out of spam! Jo mentioned Brimham Rocks, that used to be called Crags I believe. I don’t recall visiting them, but may have on a geography trip as we explored an awful lot of North Yorkshire and the Dales. They do look like a place I’d love to visit, so I am putting them on the list for when I make my return to Yorkshire!

  1. Reminds me of Brimham Rocks. You must have been there? 🙂 🙂 This one didn’t come up in my Reader yesterday so I’ll refollow. Methinks WP is being naughty.

        1. I might have been with school on a geography trip, but I didn’t do many trips with the kids. No money and no car.
