Way back in 2015 – yes that really is ten years ago – I decided to post photos of the numerous benches sitting in my folders. It seemed that I was not alone and suddenly it turned into the Bench Challenge where I set a particular criterion each month and people joined in posting their bench photos. It was a lot of fun and I met a lot of wonderful bloggers through it.

This year I am returning to mark the occasion by posting a bench photo every Sunday. There will not be any particular theme set this year so it’s not really much of a challenge, but if there is anyone out there who still has a bucketful of bench photos and would like to join me, then please do so by adding a link in the comments or a link to my post in yours (a pingback) and I will happily pop along to admire.
Yes, always stylish xx
Like me 🙄
Exactly so xx
You do a Lutyen’s bench, I do a Lutyen’s bench. They’re always in a lovely spot, aren’t they? https://margaret21.com/2025/04/27/a-bench-among-the-wisteria/
Yours is gorgeous under the wisteria.
Lucky us!
Definitely not a bench for sitting until the gardener comes around. Not heard of a Lutyens bench
Here’s my bench for this week
“The eight-foot-long Thakeham bench—named for the 1902 West Sussex estate he designed it for—cropped up in several influential projects across England, from Sissinghurst, in Kent, to Hestercombe, in Somerset. Years later, it would be referred to by many as simply the Lutyens bench.”
Lutyens was a famous British arts and crafts architect who did a lot of garden designs along with the fabulous Gertrude Jekyll.
After going down the Lutyens rabbit hole yesterday, they come in all sizes now but at least that distinctive shape is still there
Haha… Yes. Me too. I nearly bought one (not the Lutyens) until I read the delivery charges. Living this far south has its disadvantages.
The prices really vary as well. Everything is expensive to get to my place, that’s why I have a ute to pick stuff up myself
My new car is so much smaller than my old VW Jetta I can’t get a lot into the boot! But it’s perfect for the narrow lanes.
That is important from some of those lanes I have seen on TV
Style and beauty
Indeed

Beautiful – but in danger of being overgrown?
Mmm.. Yes, as Brian said, needs a bit of pruning around it before you can sit down!
