My kitchen is not the usual place you’ll find me with a camera, I’m more of an outdoor photographer with nature and flora my topics. But yesterday was a rainy day and I was feeling bored so I grabbed the camera and had a look around my kitchen.

It’s not a very tidy kitchen, surfaces have all sorts of appliances, jars and general ‘stuff’ on them. It’s not a normal kind of house being an extended and converted dairy milking stall so the kitchen is a kind of corridor linking the dining hall to the sitting room. No doors. And the cupboards are blue. Very blue. Nothing really matches – I still have things that belonged to my mother! And if it isn’t broken I never throw anything away.

I have tried to coordinate some of the new things I have bought like my Cornishware storage jars, but I’ll never win any design awards.

I have a lot of mugs even after giving dozens away to my daughter when we moved, and some have been bought by my grandchildren like the Gardeners one above. I use a plain white one for my herbal tea when I drink it. I had a thing for plain white crockery once.

But currently my morning cup of coffee is drunk from this new cup and saucer set. Definitely not blue. But very me…
Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #256 | Kitchen
It’s perfectly you, Jude, and just right. Pristine kitchens are unreal or only for photo shoots. I read an article once telling the readers what shouldn’t be on the counter. Included were canisters, appliances, and the like. Where on earth do these people think we should put them? Do they never cook and only preen themselves on having empty, clean counters? I say, get real. Life is lived and life in the kitchen can be messy but it should be practical and personal!
I guess if you aren’t a cook then you don’t need stuff on the counters. I was looking at mine today and wondering whether I could remove some of the clutter, but things like chopping boards, knife block, utensils, tall pepper grinder just can’t really be put in a cupboard. I have thought about a big larder cabinet which might help hide stuff.
Great photos. Good eye!
Thanks John.
I loved this Jude and glad you shared a peek at your space with your lens. I love that it is a mixed match bunch of “love”. All of it sounds like a wonderful memory. I loved all your photos, but the wine bottles with the guitar in the back was a favorite for me. T think your space was a former dairy stall, wow. What a fun place to wander for the rest of us….too
Suzanne is right. That photo sums us up perfectly. Glad you enjoyed the post.
It’s charming, and hard to imagine as a dairy milking stall! I too prefer white china, for me it’s my morning coffee. I swear it actually tastes better out of the one perfect white cup.
We have white cups too, but I felt like a change when some needed replacing.
That’s a gorgeous new cup and saucer and I can imagine how much pleasure it gives you every morning.
I look forward to that morning coffee. It’s the only coffee I have these days.
Me too.
I do like the image with the guitar, wine bottles and plant – it sort of sums up the two people who live there rather nicely 😉
Yes it does. 😊
Love that cup and saucer – very appropriate for someone who loves her garden! 🙂
I normally go for plain accessories etc indoors, but I just love this little cup and saucer. Half price too which helps!
I have found someone like me…and my kitchen! Your house sound a dream to me, and I’d love to have a guided tour…! Beautiful photography and I love the bottles and the guitar. The cup looks perfect for you and your garden – a flowery wonder. ♥
Thanks Ann-Christine. It’s a quirky little house, and the bottle photo kind of sums us up 😊
