I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

Nice to have an Aussie connection for you today Jude.
I was hoping for a photo of a Wombat though, as I think that they are even cuter than Koalas. Trying to ignore that lovely weather…
Regards as always, Pete. x
Wombats are very elusive Pete. Sorry! Yes, that weather seems like a dream… sigh!
I remember a TV show about doctors in Australia, and they had a pet wombat. I wanted one!
Contrary to Pete’s opinion, I think Koalas are perhaps the cutest animal alive Jude, and am very happy you featured him/her! Happy Aussie Day to you too!!
I only wish I was an Aussie Tina, or at least in Australia today! But I’m sure everyone there is having fun 🙂 And yes, I agree, koalas are very cute, even if this little chap couldn’t be bothered to open his eyes as he had a little scratch. They are such funny creatures.
They are very cute indeed Tina, just a tad overexposed perhaps? I like Tapirs too, but they are not from Australia, unfortunately.
I looked exactly like that koala this morning when I heard the news that our Prime Minister had awarded a Knighthood to Prince Philip. I don’t think we’re supposed to celebrate being Australian on our national day by feeling embarrassed to be one.
Oh, then perhaps I should have featured a parrot H 😀
How about a galah, in honour of our esteemed leader?
Haha! Actually I was thinking of “sick as a parrot” but I guess a Galah would do. Except that is one bird I DIDN’T get a photo of! Pfuh!
Ha ha ha good one…
Nice koala shot! After a string of fabulous hot sunny summer days, Australia Day in Sydney is cool and overcast, with rain forecast.
Thanks for your good wishes on the day, even though I’m a vegetarian (no barbie), a wine drinker (no slab) and a listener of ABC Classic FM (Triple J, shudder!!!!). But I shall mark the day in my own way! 🙂
Oh, that’s a shame (hee hee) about the rain 😛
As you could probably guess I did write this post with my tongue firmly in my cheek. And I’m not jealous at all.
If I were there I would in fact be mourning invasion day, and all the tragedies visited on the original inhabitants from then on and still. Sorry to be bleak, but I think bleakness is justified.
I agree that there were many things in the past that should not have happened, but at some point we have to move on. We cannot rewrite history and surely it is a good thing to celebrate being what an Australian is today?
I hadn’t realised that the date was indeed questionable, but so many of today’s Australians are what they are because of those first ‘invaders’. Or settlers, or pioneers. How we go about things today however is another matter and it is tragic that we don’t seem to have learned from previous mistakes.
I am indeed privileged to live in Australia, but also shamed by the behavior of the current government on many fronts. And a lot of the settlers and pioneers were in fact murderers. “We” might be able to move on, but it’s not so easy for the dispossessed, many of whom I see in Bodalla. So I take a jaundiced view of Australia Day! Sorry.
It’s like a foreign language, Jude…mate! 🙂 Trust you’ve been watching the Open?
Fabulous koala shot!
I only have terrestrial TV Jo and so tennis is not available 😦 How’s your bloke doing?
Back tracking for obscure reasons, Jude, but the answer is badly 🙂 🙂 But your guy’s doing well!
Love the sleepy koala Jude. The day has been HOT but fun shared with good friends, Aussie flag flapping on the veranda, burgers on the barbie, washed down with a Semillon sauvignon blanc followed by the NZ created pavlova. Watched the neighbours playing cricket in the street one way and over the back fence a big pool party going on.
Koalas are ALWAYS sleepy! But cute. Haha, so the Kiwi pavlova is a traditional dish on this day too is it? Sounds like a good day all round there PP.
Yep all things Aussie (even if who first invented it is disputed.) I love it so any excuse to have one
Me too – meringue, cream and fruit – what’s not to love 😀
Very yummy
I love the koala too! Aren’t they just the cutest?!! 🙂
