Venetian Masks

Carnival Mask
Carnival Mask

I’m not a wearer of masks, but couldn’t help being attracted to these beautiful carnival masks in Venice. I quite fancy the blue one below and regret not buying it or maybe the bird mask. Pop over to Ailsa to unmask more interpretations.

Heyjude

I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

  1. To be honest, I find these a little sppoky. They make good subjects for colour photos though.
    Regards as always, Pete. x

  2. These beauties must have cost a fortune! I especially like the bird ones. Lucky you, being in Venice! I’m totally jelly! I’m also planning to travel there this year and wondering where you found these beauties? 😀

    1. Some seemed quite reasonable €50 and you see them everywhere you go – I think the bird mask was on the Rialto bridge.

  3. I think masks are gorgeous but I wouldn’t know what to do with one. Probably wouldn’t buy one either. The enjoyment would be in the looking. I agree with the other blogger. They ARE spooky.
    😀

  4. Add me to the list of people who think masks are rather creepy looking. I think I might have watched too many horror movies when I was younger :/
They are beautiful works of art though. I like the first one all done in glittery golds.

  5. The blue one is gorgeous, such a brilliant burst of colour. This would save me a whole lot of makeup in the morning!

  6. I find the masks very beautiful. They were worn so people could get away with outrageous acts (well probably not so outrageous to us today) and not be known, especially before Lent.

  7. I wouldn’t want to wear one either, but they are beautiful and I also regretted not buying one, but I’m good at reminding myself I don’t need any more stuff!

  8. These are beautiful Jude! My friend wore a few masks she got in Venice for this past Halloween so I got to see them up close.

    1. Yes, I really ought to have bought one, but not the kind of thing I wear and I have enough ‘stuff’
