October Squares

a Kind of Surprise

This gorgeous stag was photographed by my daughter in Bushy Park, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, during the heat wave in the summer. She was sitting right next to this tree, and said the deer came down to drink in the river too, despite a lot of people being around. I envy him those antlers, how handy to be able to scratch your own back!

Bushy ParkΒ is one ofΒ London’s eight Royal Parks and Red and Fallow Deer still roam freely throughout the park, just as they did when Henry VIII used to hunt here.

KindaSquare is the theme this month as Becky is hoping we might, in the final squares of 2020, encourage and promote kindness. Β A year I don’t think any of us will forget in a hurry. Still a few days left if you want to join in. Just click on the link.

Heyjude

I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

      1. Here’s one I saw in Richmond Park, early’90s, in the middle of this post from 2013

  1. wow! Well somebody is proud of themselves aren’t they, and hope your daughter is too. What an incredible picture

    1. He’s a magnificent animal isn’t he? I can’t think of anywhere here in Cornwall where there are deer.

  2. I haven’t been to that park since I lived in Wimbledon in the early 80s. But I recall the deer being very ‘tame’ around people. Your daughter took a great photo!
    Best wishes, Pete. x

    1. She has always been good at photography, she even used to process her own film at one time! She has a good eye.
