During this year I shall be posting photographs from places around the UK, many of which have not been published before. Where I have previously blogged about a location I will provide a link to the post, though you wonโt be able to comment on it as I restrict comments to six months.
V is for Vrynwy (Lake)
Lake Vyrnwy (pronounced Vernwee) is a reservoir in Powys, Wales, built in the 1880s for Liverpool Corporation Waterworks to supply Liverpool with fresh water. Just on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park and south of Lake Bala, Lake Vyrnwy is set amidst the remote and beautiful Berwyn Mountains. It’s a short drive from the Shropshire border (The Welsh Marches).

There are lots of trails and walks around the 5 mile long lake with several picnic spots and viewpoints and bird hides from which to watch the variety of birdlife in the area.

There are many other activities too including sailing, fishing and mountain biking. Visitors can embark on a relatively easy 12-mile bike ride around the lake or hike one of the many walking trails, such as the Rhiwagor Trail or the Craig Garth Bwlch Trail.
We drove past it and perhaps we should’ve organised more time to explore. It’s great having trails around that area as it’s very picturesque.
We’ve driven past a few times and once stopped by the bridge where there were bird feeders to watch the birdlife. That was 20 years ago and things have changed a lot since then.
I would suspect it has become more touristy and an emphasis on trails?
And water activities apparently.
Thanks, Jude! I wondered how you pronounced it. What a wonderful, peaceful spot. Have a lovely Sunday!
Yes, a nice place for a picnic. I’m not sure the trails and water activities were quite so available when we were there.

Ah, of course. V is almost as hard as X and Z. But you’ve chosen a lovey place to explore here – and another one I don’t know.
Yes, I struggled with this one. Seems we haven’t visited many places beginning with V.
Vauxhall? Ventnor?
A Vauxhall car dealer? And, yes, I considered Ventnor botanical garden, but my photos aren’t very good.
No. Vauxhall where I used to live in London! And where the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens were, where Becky Sharp disported herself in Vanity Fair.
Only Vauxhall I know is a car dealer when I owned a Corsa ๐
Humph.
Ah youโve got me this time, Jude – never even heard of this one let alone been there. Looks very Wales though!
Just about Welsh Wales ๐
A good find for V, Jude. I had never heard of it.
Best wishes, Pete. x
Unless you drive through Wales from the west Midlands you probably wouldn’t have.
Ah, memoriesโฆ..
Did you used to visit Wales often? They do have the best roads.
Back in the โ80s, yes..North and mid Walesโฆ.always looking for ruins!
Of course!

Very interesting photos of the lake. I really like the hills, impressive old architecture and the dolphins carved from the driftwood.
Yes, the dolphins are cleverly done. And pretty much all of Wales is rather hilly and very beautiful too.
Gotta love an intake tower that looks like a castle. ๐ You’ve almost made it through the alphabet, Jude. What’s next or is it a secret?
Rapunzel let down your hair… ๐
Next is a place I don’t think many people will have heard of.
The tower in the lake is really beautiful, like stepping into a storybook
The Victorians did build some elaborate utility buildings.
This looks like a pretty area and you had a beautiful day for your visit too.
We drove past several times on the way to other parts of north Wales, it’s a much prettier route than the A5
