Inspiration found in the Kitchen

My kitchen is not the usual place you’ll find me with a camera, I’m more of an outdoor photographer with nature and flora my topics. But yesterday was a rainy day and I was feeling bored so I grabbed the camera and had a look around my kitchen.

It’s not a very tidy kitchen, surfaces have all sorts of appliances, jars and general ‘stuff’ on them. It’s not a normal kind of house being an extended and converted dairy milking stall so the kitchen is a kind of corridor linking the dining hall to the sitting room. No doors. And the cupboards are blue. Very blue. Nothing really matches – I still have things that belonged to my mother! And if it isn’t broken I never throw anything away.

I have tried to coordinate some of the new things I have bought like my Cornishware storage jars, but I’ll never win any design awards.

I have a lot of mugs even after giving dozens away to my daughter when we moved, and some have been bought by my grandchildren like the Gardeners one above. I use a plain white one for my herbal tea when I drink it. I had a thing for plain white crockery once.

But currently my morning cup of coffee is drunk from this new cup and saucer set. Definitely not blue. But very me…

Heyjude

I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

  1. Not a design statement, but a home. And lovely, just like you. I could live there, Jude… apart from the cows! Love this snippet of your life.

    1. A rather dusty home! It’s been challenging to do housework. The kitchen really needs a thorough spring clean! 😂

    1. I had the idea of a blue and white kitchen, but until things need replacing they are what they are.

  2. Uncordinated kitchens are the best kind in my book. My wife likes to have everything matching, and that’s her ‘thing’. So we have everything matching. 🙂
We also have ‘mug-overload’, and have to change them around now and then so some get used.
Rain here yesterday too. Ollie and I got saturated on the dog-walk by unexpected downpours.
    Best wishes, Pete. x

  3. you took some great macros, my post did not show my kitchen that much, and well we live in our houses, clutter is all around. Really nice and colorful cup. Appreciate you taking part even if not your most natural place for photography

    1. Thanks Ritva. It was an interesting challenge, right out of my comfort zone. I’d love to be a minimalist, but somehow I can’t achieve that look!

  4. So nice to have you with us this week Jude! Loved your kitchen – there is an art to being eclectic! Your kitchen and in fact your house sounds wonderful – a former dairy milking stall, I would love to see it. It sounds right up your alley 😊. Thunderstorms here yesterday and more this morning but think we have a sunny few days ahead. With temps in the high 90s (f) that is not necessarily a good thing but the ocean breezes help. Wishing you a lovely weekend.

    1. Thanks Tina. I do a lot of cooking from scratch hence everything is to hand on the counters. It’s quite a quirky little house with a vaulted ceiling and beams in the dining hall which is what made us fall in love with this house.
