Way back in 2015 – yes that really is ten years ago – I decided to post photos of the numerous benches sitting in my folders. It seemed that I was not alone and suddenly it turned into the Bench Challenge where I set a particular criterion each month and people joined in posting their bench photos. It was a lot of fun and I met a lot of wonderful bloggers through it.

This year I am returning to mark the occasion by posting a bench photo every Sunday. There will not be any particular theme set this year so it’s not really much of a challenge, but if there is anyone out there who still has a bucketful of bench photos and would like to join me, then please do so by adding a link in the comments or a link to my post in yours (a pingback) and I will happily pop along to admire.
I can see that this somewhat austere bench would be just the thing after a uphill slog. In lovely surroundings too. My bench is not such a happy one: https://margaret21.com/2025/05/11/a-bench-blast-from-the-past/
It’s a good stopping off point before tackling the rest of the up! I always get a bit annoyed when I find someone else has got there before me!
I know. Some people are so thoughtless.
I’m imagining the view. Happy Sunday, Jude! All well with you? xx
Raining today ☔
The garden needs it though. A blogging and reading day.
I’m finding that as I get older I am more and more making use of benches!
My excuse is that I like to test out a bench – see if it meets the comfort criterion.
I can understand that! A very welcoming bench, and the view must be worth all the effort.
And I’m featuring a bench with a very obvious invitation to sit
It’s a good stopping off point before the final ascent of the garden to the exit!
It’s a very ‘basic’ bench, but it’s in a lovely spot, and I agree about ‘any bench will do’.
Best wishes, Pete. x
I’m usually puffing a bit by the time we reach this point and still more up to come so it is a welcome bench to catch one’s breath. And the views are lovely too.
I made some seats for my garden a long time ago which has since fallen apart. I’ll see if I can find any remnants.
Here is my bench
My Alex made me a bench (it’s what I use for my spring bulb display) but it’s a bit wonky now – needs some TLC.
That’s lovely. Maybe a bit of attention to get that bench to last a few more years
Mmm… maybe a few more screws would do the trick. I might have to get the daughter on the job! She’s pretty good at DIY.
It’s good to have a handy person around to help out
Ah, if only she lived closer.
That is a beautiful place to sit surrounded by colour. I would like to see the Laurel Maze!
You have seen it before. I’ll add a link to the post.
Thanks. That was worth a revisit!
