Bench Challenge Anniversary

Way back in 2015 – yes that really is ten years ago – I decided to post photos of the numerous benches sitting in my folders. It seemed that I was not alone and suddenly it turned into the Bench Challenge where I set a particular criterion each month and people joined in posting their bench photos. It was a lot of fun and I met a lot of wonderful bloggers through it.

A bench among the Azaleas in Isabella’s Plantation, Richmond Park, Surrey.

This year I am returning to mark the occasion by posting a bench photo every Sunday. There will not be any particular theme set this year so it’s not really much of a challenge, but if there is anyone out there who still has a bucketful of bench photos and would like to join me, then please do so by adding a link in the comments or a link to my post in yours (a pingback) and I will happily pop along to admire.

Heyjude

I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

  1. I’d happily relax on that bench! I’ve done one for you today, but linking it on my phone proved a nightmare. No idea! So you may or may not see it. I took it just down the road yesterday on my phone, in very bright sun, so it’s not the best

    1. Looks like the link worked. No worries though as I follow you so will see the post anyway. Hope you’re having fun over there!

      1. Fun yes. But working harder than I have for years, keeping the family ship sailing while both parents cope with unusually challenging times. -M.starting a new business while E helps him, in among her full time job AND being a mother!

        1. Cooking , cleaning, shopping, herding kids, it’ll remind you of your au pair days. Without the wages! Pithy as they were. Perhaps they need a Mary Poppins to stop by. Oh, yes, of course that would be YOU πŸ₯°

        2. I started off by describing myself as the au pair. But it turns out to be much more than that. They rarely ask for help, and I don’t feel used as it’s a one-off. But I AM tired!

        3. Yes. We don’t have the same energy that it takes looking after a family as we get older. I’m sure they really appreciate your being there for support.

    1. We didn’t sit. In fact the photo is so compact because I had to squeeze past a family who were going to sit on it, for a photo of course! All the benches seemed to be full of people taking selfies πŸ˜‚

      1. I’m generally ok, but sitting next to so many flowers might not be the best idea! I don’t have hay fever, but excessive pollen, grass cutting, or even someone wearing too much perfume can make me sniffly and sneezy.

    1. No arms, but pretty solid. Have you got your patio furniture out now? It’s a tad windy down this way for sitting outdoors.

      1. The patio furniture is currently on the patio, but still under the waterproof cover. Yesterday evening looked like a great chance to sit outside, but Julie was too hot, so didn’t want to. I could have sat there alone, but decided not to do that. x

        1. I am always sitting outside on my own. The OH has problems with his eyes and brightness so avoids being outdoors, especially where there is not much shade. This weekend has been far too windy to be comfortable outdoors.
