Way back in 2015 – yes that really is ten years ago – I decided to post photos of the numerous benches sitting in my folders. It seemed that I was not alone and suddenly it turned into the Bench Challenge where I set a particular criterion each month and people joined in posting their bench photos. It was a lot of fun and I met a lot of wonderful bloggers through it.

This year I am returning to mark the occasion by posting a bench photo every Sunday. There will not be any particular theme set this year so it’s not really much of a challenge, but if there is anyone out there who still has a bucketful of bench photos and would like to join me, then please do so by adding a link in the comments or a link to my post in yours (a pingback) and I will happily pop along to admire.
And I think there is enough red in this one to satisfy Becky’s SimplyRed Squares
More than enough red, and what a lovely place to sit on a bench for a while
Lots of red roses here and other beautiful plants too. I am sure I must have bench tested one of these benches.
we’ll have to create for you little badges that score benches out of 10 so you can leave markers of where you have sat!
I really should have been more thorough and rated each bench I photographed for comfort and style.
Surrounded by roses- how lovely! xx
You must have been to the Alnwick Gardens? This was up at the top in the walled garden which was and probably still is magnificent.
I have but it’s a long time ago xx
Your bench – or its surroundings anyway – is very much prettier than mine this week: https://margaret21.com/2025/07/20/bench-for-a-gnome/
A bench is a bench (unless it’s a chair) though the surroundings do certainly make a difference as to how aesthetically pleasing one might be,
A bench is often much more about its surroundings, I think
Love the roses to sit and smell Jude. I saw this bench a couple of weeks ago and put it in the bench folder for future use and now it’s time has come…https://retiredfromgypsylife.wordpress.com/2025/07/20/bench-challenge-2/
Lots of roses in this garden PP. You would love it. And thank you for continuing to find a bench for me on your outings.
That’s a gorgeous spot for a little respite.
Very much so. It is a fab garden. You might enjoy this post about it.
Thanks for the link!
Nicely bright, and a lovely place to sit. Here’s mine for today, also colourful in the garden: https://suejudd.com/2025/07/20/a-garden-bench/
A bit difficult to sit on your bench!
Well,true!
Need to take a pair of secateurs with you 🤭
