During July I will be joining in with Becky’s SimplyRed Squares.

I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling. View all posts by Heyjude

Don’t they look full of goodness! xx
Do you know I don’t think I have ever eaten any? Have you?
not my favourite fruit but my mother grows them by the ton!
What does she do with them? I have never seen them for sale here, nor eaten them.
she often just cooks them down to have with her breakfast in morning. She used to make jams
A confession- I too thought they were cherry tomatoes! I’ve mostly only eaten them as fancy decorations on a dessert, now that I know what they are! xx
Red currants! They make such delicious jams and jellies.
Apparently! Fiddly things to top and tail if anything like blackcurrants.
Not particularly as I recall. My mum used to grow them and my job was to clean them. They’re tart and can make such excellent jelly or jam, pies, too. They’re sold regularly here in the farmers’ markets but also in some grocery stores, too.
Never seen red currants over here
Not sure I have for sale. I guess you have to grow your own.
I thought they were mini tomatoes
I do actually have some of my own cherry tomatoes this year!
Tomatoes in short supply over here and very expensive, $13 a kg, which makes a decent sized tomato about $1-50 each
How strange. You have the climate to grow them. Maybe you should have a couple of pots on your balcony, bush tomatoes are good to grow.
All the storms and floods created havoc with many of the vegetable growing areas, creating shortages.
They all look nice and shiny.
Oooh, don’t make me jealous! I can’t buy redcurrants for love nor money these days, and … y’know … no garden.
Never eaten them. What do you do with redcurrants?
jams, summer pudding, juice and more!
Ah, yes, summer pudding. Never made that one. And redcurrant jelly I know.
Summer pudding, mainly. And redcurrant jelly. Or simply … nick them and eat them before they have a chance to go anywhere else.
They look so yummy. How many punnets did you buy Jude?
Not a single one. Staying in a hotel.
A great find and unable to buy is disappointing
I know. Staying self catering is good for local shopping, but then I don’t get a break from cooking.
Yes to that. I always seem to be the designated cook 🙄
Delicious! We bought some last time we were in UK.
I’ve only ever seen redcurrant jelly.
Another unusual choice that works well. I have never eaten redcurrants though, and I don’t remember ever seeing any sold here.
Best wishes, Pete. x
Nor me.
fabulous
And thanks for explaining what they can be used for.
