Bench series #5

For the month of February let’s see your benches processed in Black and White

Tips: Remember that the best Black & White photos are those with a lot of contrast, lots of light and shadow. But conversely the best images to convert into Black and White occur in low contrast situations – so don’t wait for that sunny day to get out there. A dark or low light day could produce your best image. Also shoot in colour first and then convert. And watch the composition. Unlike when you use colour to lead the eye into a shot, you need to look out for shapes, tones, patterns or textures to draw the eye in. Good luck!

Walking the dog…

If you would like to join in with the Bench photo challenge then please take a look at my Bench Series page. No complicated rules, just a bench and a camera required 🙂

  • Create your own post and title it Bench Series: February
  • Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
  • Add the tag ‘bench series’ so everyone can find the benches easily in WP Reader
  • Get your post in by the end of the month, as the new bench theme comes out on the first Sunday in March

Last week we were still in the garden:

Gilly joins in again with Daisy in Hartland Abbey Garden
and Daily Musings has a bench with views over the Hudson.
Sue takes us to a sunny bench in Devon where the flowers threaten to subsume you, but Pauline has the most unusual treat for us in Canberra (warning: do not visit when everyone is asleep).
Sherri has a bench for all seasons, in her pretty garden, of course.
One of my favourite gardens in the world from Aletta in Cape Town
And in Scotland we find Debbie has a bench with a view.
Still in N’Orleans Elaine discovers an exhibit in the garden.

Bench series #4

Final week on the Garden theme so if you want to join in this month with your garden bench you have until next Saturday to post your photos 🙂

Not one, but three benches this week in a lovely garden in Dumfries and Galloway, southern Scotland. Logan Botanical Garden is one of the most beautiful and interesting gardens in the UK and not what you would expect to find so far north. If you want to see more then please click on the link above.

And if you like the idea of a ‘Bench’ photo challenge then take a look at my Bench Series page for details of how to join in.

Aletta shows us a curved bench in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa

Pauline is sitting amongst the peace lilies this week in Townsville
Cathy has several benches in a seaside garden in New Zealand

and a bench that had to be re-built by Jennifer.
Priorhouse blog on the other hand combines benches with a story. With a bench in it, of course!
Debbie finds a tranquil spot in Paris.
and Julia has one with a tribute.
Elaine joins in with a couple of gardens bringing back memories of summer!
and you can sit and smell the lavender from this pretty bench from Dawn.
Finally a serene bench with Spanish moss dripping above from Isadora.

Thank you all for joining in this week.

Bench series #2

It would appear from the comments left on last week’s bench that this is a topic close to the heart of many photographers (and there I was thinking that I was unique 😕 ) and that many of you would love to join in. So let’s go for it…

For the month of January let’s see your GARDEN benches

This is taken from a seat, but there is another one in the picture if you look very carefully.

Bench series #1

For some time now I have been photographing benches when I come across them. I like benches. I especially like them when they are placed in a convenient position, like half way up a hill, or on the top of a cliff, preferably with a view. Some benches have plaques, some have slats, some are made of wood, some are good (to sit on). So for the next year, as a new feature, I am going to post a photo of a bench/seat each week. So you can take the weight of your feet and relax and breathe…

This one comes with a lovely view of the garden.
