devil’s club

The Latin name Oplopanax horridum means ‘horrible weapon’. Its sharp thorns inflict painful wounds giving rise to the myth that they are tipped with poison. Devil’s Club has adapted to life on the forest floor by using giant leaves to capture the dim light.
