One Day One World Project: 22:00 – 23:00

Festival Fireworks Finale

During June and July Ludlow holds an Arts Festival and a Fringe Festival with loads of music, poetry, plays, comedy acts and  Shakespeare culminating on the final Saturday (6th July) with a concert in the castle grounds and fireworks.

At 22:30 pm I was up on the top floor of our house with camera and gorillapod, windows flung wide open, listening to the final act which was David Essex. Given that the other stars of the show were Showaddywaddy and Les McKeown’s Bay City Rollers you may understand why I wasn’t at the actual concert. Anyway I didn’t record the songs ‘Gonna Make U A Star’, ‘Stardust’, ‘Oh What A Circus’ (which is the only one that I quite like), and ‘Silver Dream Machine’.

No, I was waiting for the fireworks finale. And at 22:50 the show began:

Lisa of the blog NorthWest Frame of Mind has decided to run a different project over the next 24 weeks. To try to show what is happening in different parts of the world (if you all join in) at a particular time of day. If you would like to participate you have until next Saturday midnight to post a photo or write about what is happening in your part of the world.   This week is between 22:00 – 23:00.  I hope you’ll join in! See links for more details.

Heyjude

I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

  1. I badly need lessons in this kind of photography – or another camera. These shots are wonderful – a perfect end to a extraordinarily lazy day for me.

    1. I only have a bridge camera Meg (Fuji) but I did use a gorillapod which is a small bendy tripod so the camera stayed still for the long exposure. I set the camera to fireworks in the settings menu and then just pressed as quickly as I could! Some of the most sparkling ones didn’t come out very well though.

    1. Very lucky really as the camera was slow to react after each shot! I just kept shooting and hoping something interesting would be captured 🙂

  2. A tricky subject exceptionally well-captured Jude. Great firework shots indeed. (Shame about the gig line-up though..)
    Regards as always, Pete. x

  3. I want to sign on for lessons with moreselsandscraps. Wow Jude these are incredible. By the way I used to adore the Bay City Rollers. 🙂

    1. Thanks Lisa – I’d already drafted it or I’d have never managed it, and we have a wireless keyboard – I haven’t figured out how to create a link without one!

    1. I think the chimney pots may have helped with the focus. Hard to avoid them! Next time I must head up to Whitcliffe common for a clearer view.

        1. Ah, well, I guess then I would have the castle in focus! I can’t begin to think why I didn’t do that as I could have walked up in daylight too!

  4. Gorgeous pics Jude. Ah, David Essex – now there’s a blast from my teenage years. I can still see the double page posters from the teen mags selotaped to my bedroom walls. I wonder if he still has those amazing sapphire eyes?

    1. Back home again so I can reply to comments so much easier on my laptop. I was never much interested in David Essex, though I concur about the eyes – grey hair now though!

    1. Thanks M-R. I was lucky to have this happening as it fitted well into the project. Now this week is another challenge altogether. Dark and I have been in bed by 11 pm so far! Lisa needs some night workers to take up the project!

    1. Thanks Tess – I did use a tripod for these photos, or they would have been rubbish. And I used the fireworks setting on the camera which gives a longer exposure. Sports mode often helps when trying too capture moving objects.

      1. Wow. I don’t know anything about a decent camera. Haven’t been one for thinking or remembering to take pictures let alone taking them properly. I DO appreciate looking at good ones. Like yours. 🙂
