Orangery at Trelissick

Wandering around Trelissick Gardens (Cornwall) Β in the springtime I came across the house (now open to the public) and this fabulous orangery. Those of you who follow my Earth Laughs in Flowers blog know how much I love flowers and glasshouses – my dream house would have an orangery. Sadly that is not likely to happen as I don’t have the cash for such an addition. Still I can dream. And in the meantime I can drool over buildings such as this. Just look at thatΒ stone mullioned full-length bay window and leaded panes.

Is it not a pure delight?

Heyjude

I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

  1. That’s a lovely orangery Jude, no arguments.
When I worked for the Police in London, I had some ‘behind the scenes’ access to Windsor Castle. On a tour there, I was old that the large Castle Orangery had been converted inside, for use as a swimming pool. Shows how warm they are…
    Regards as always, Pete. x

    1. Not sure this one is big enough for a swimming pool, but visiting Windsor Castle must have been quite an experience.

    2. That sounds very special indeed, Pete! We’d like to know more too! Behind the scene at Windsor … can’t you make a post about it instead of a mail …? πŸ™‚

  2. It sure is a delight and what makes it great to see this blog is the way you have photographed it. So imaginative ~ it makes me realise how boring my photographs are ~ I must try to see things in a different way. Thanks for the inspiration and the beauty of your photos.

    1. Thank you for such a lovely comment. I’m glad that my photos inspire you, but yours are very good too! I just change the angle occasionally πŸ™‚

  3. Beautiful. Oh wouldn’t it be lovely to have an orangery? I particularly love the curved bay window and the plants on the windowsill. The glass ceiling is gorgeous…oh to dream ❀

    1. Gorgeous isn’t it? And not huge either so easy to look after. I’d love somewhere to keep my pelargoniums over winter.

  4. What a marvellous old structure- most certainly a pure delight. I love orangeries! πŸ™‚

    1. That’s you, me, Sherri and Gilly so far. I think this one is one of the prettiest I have seen, and possibly the smallest too.

    1. A lot of the ‘stately’ homes here have them. High ceilings so they can grow citrus trees and palms. I love them, for the architecture as much as the ability to grow plants in them.
