Black and White 5 Day Challenge: #2

Shutters in Switzerland

I love photographing windows. I like architectural character, I love shutters especially those with peeling paint and I like reflections – here you can just about make out some ornate wrought-iron railings of the opposite balcony.

Pauline of Gypsy Life and Memories are made of thisΒ has invited me to join in with this challenge.Β If you don’t know Pauline (Pommepal) then you are missing a treat.Β Living in Australia Pauline is always on the move with her lovely Jack by her side.

There are only two rules for this challenge:

  1. On 5 consecutive days, create a post using either a past or recent photo in B&W.
  2. Each day invite another blog friend to join in the fun.

Today I would like to nominate Elizabeth KrallΒ to join in. Of course this is only if you have the time and want to.

Elizabeth is an author, loves tall ship sailing, drinking cocktails, travel and is a great photographer. I think she’d be excellent withΒ this challenge.

Heyjude

I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

    1. I thought it came out quite nice too! There is a lot of texture on those shutters which helps. Thanks Aletta πŸ™‚

  1. Love your capture. Not only do the shutters have character, but they see to have a true ‘eye’ on the world, proved by the reflection you’ve captured as well. I’m appreciated black and white photos more and more. Thank YOU. ❀

    1. Thanks Tess! This black and white conversion is not easy though. Photos I think will translate well don’t always look good – they lose something whereas I want to gain something. Good contrasts help as in this image. I hope my other ideas also work.

  2. Great photo for B & W Jude. So many of my photos aren’t suitable but I’m now viewing them with a different eye for composition. It’s an interesting challenge. I’m still working on it!
