For the month of October I’m looking for a bench with someone or something sitting on it
(any kind of bench will do, but there must be at least one person, animal or object on the bench)
Sculptures on benches in Pashley Manor Gardens, East Sussex/Kent
If you would like to join in with the Bench photo challenge then please take a look at my Bench Series page. No complicated rules, just a bench and a camera required 🙂
- Create your own post and title it Bench Series: October
- Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
- Add the tag ‘bench series’ so everyone can find the benches easily in the WP Reader
- Get your post in by the end of the month, as the new bench theme comes out on the first Sunday in November.
My Picks of the Week:
There was a flurry of benches with sculptures last week with a couple from the prolific artist Seward Johnson (click on next at the bottom to scroll through the benches on his site). The first is from Anne who has entered several benches before but unfortunately I have missed them! Sorry Anne! And two from Sylvia. I have a photo of one of his sculptures ‘Kiss‘ that used to stand in San Diego, but yes that’s not on a bench!
Please welcome a new entry from New / Old Amsterdam with ghostly figures and the same sculpture from Elaine but in a different location or take a look at these benches with real human interest, one is sure to make you smile. Geriatrix and friends or Lori’s family having a giggle.
Tish on the other hand has a much more thought-provoking statue as does Elaine. But I’ll end on a sunnier note with an arty shot from Kaz of the most interesting bench shelters I have seen. Oh, how I wish I was sitting there now!
Occupied benches appears to be the favourite theme so far. Thank you all for sharing some fabulous benches and please check out the other links within the comment section.
I figured I’d continue with my theme from last week…. 🙂 https://dailymusing57.wordpress.com/2015/10/18/bench-series-20/
And very nicely done too 🙂
Just wanted to mention my bench last week and this were taken at Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton NJ- a showcase of Seward Johnson’s work
He’s a prolific sculptor!
Every month when this rolls around, I wish I had entered. So … I will. I don’t have exactly the right photograph, but nonetheless, I do have a little something. I love the bench-seated bronzes. We have a couple of them in Boston and the next time I’m in that area, I’ll take some pictures. Meanwhile, out here in the country … well … it’s a different story 🙂
Thanks Marilyn 🙂
There are so many benches with clever people sculptures! I wonder if we have any in Sydney?
I was out walking on Saturday (I’ll link it to Jo’s walk if I ever get the photos edited) and kept a sharp eye out for occupied benches that would make an interesting photo. Found one!

I don’t recall any in Sydney, but you never know. Here they tend to be in gardens, in the US they seem to be in parks. In Europe and Canada I have seen them in the street, in squares.
Perhaps we are a bench-sculpture-free zone. 😦
Jude you must hold the world re its for photos of benches. The variety is astounding.
The ordinary becoming extraordinary? I was thinking that all these bench posts fit into that theme. And the worst thing is Sue that I still keep taking photos of them!
Great series of benches from around the world – enjoyed the tour!
Funny how so many of us take photos of a bench.
Very popular theme this month Jude. Love your 3. I am rather fond of pigs so really liked these in Adelaide. https://memoriesaremadeofthisblog.wordpress.com/2015/10/19/bench-series-october-3/
I can see why the pigs caught your eye 🙂
Worked on pig farms for about 6 years. I got to know them well…
Great combination! Oh, I like them all, but the first one with the reading lady and the dog is superb.
There were a lot of sculptures in the garden on my visit, several I quite fancied taking home with me 🙂
