Home thoughts from abroad is a new series on Travel Words featuring a single photograph that reminds me of a country visited and showing something that uniquely identifies it as being ‘abroad’.

A birthday treat from one island to another involved a ferry and a coach. Narrow roads curving around tight bends with no barriers. The mountain on one side, the sea on the other. Eyes closed. Stopping for coffee and a stroll beneath shady trees to keep cool. A fishy lunch down by the harbour with skinny feral cats weaving between your legs. Hot, tired and happy at the end of the day.
But if your eyes are closed you’ll miss the glorious scenery.
Tall mountain above, steep drop into the sea – what scenery? No barriers either.
Perhaps I’d be too busy holding on to look around me.
I remember those days! The ultimate Greek moment for me was on Naxos. And AntiParos. And Crete. I could go on… π π
Finally, sunshine here this morning! Probably nippy but who cares, right now? Get yourself out for that anniversary, woman!
Tee hee, Jo! You tell her!!
Shh… she needs no encouragement.
Oh, I can’t keep quiet with you two around πππ
You’ve got our sun!
Wondering now what you got up to in Greece…
Washing blowing on the line for the first time this year. Clean curtains up. Must be Spring xx
Must be selling a house….
Had my washing out for the first time today too. Hooray! π
π
Ah, I recall some hairy moments in Greece….
Road trip?
Sort of
You should do more writing on your blog Sue, you must have some amazing tales to tell. You have travelled to a lot of countries and many off the beaten track.
I’m just lazy, Jude, and I don’t often keep diaries…..but actually, I could tell a tale or two, just a bit skimpy on the details. Thanks for your confidence in me!
A nice memory, and a place that is definitely ‘abroad’!
Best wishes, Pete. x
It was a good week, apart from plane problems.
Beautifully conjured, Jude. Can do without the precipitous bits, but all else is spot on π
Not a road you’d want to drive along at night!
I’d be nervous on narrow curving roads with no barriers. Is today your birthday or anniversary, Jude? I’m a little confused by the comments!
Cornish House Moving In Day Cathy! 31st March 2016. Time is spinning away so fast.
It certainly is! Happy Anniversary! π
Thank you Dina π
Wow, it’s been two years already? Congratulations, Jude. π
And I haven’t done anything like what I expected to do! Living here has slowed me right down.
That sounds good, Jude. It means you’re content, right?
I guess. I just think that there is no rush, the gardens and the beaches aren’t going anywhere. But then again I am not getting any younger either!
You must be nearly a local Jude “Happy Anniversary”…
I think you have to be here at least 30 years to qualify as a local π
Thatβs not long!!! Sometimes itβs a couple of generations…
π Too long for me though!
π
Ah Greece (insert sigh), so many wonderful places to visit!
Thankfully we can travel vicariously on the blogs without even suffering jet-lag or airport security. I know, it’s not quite the same as being there.
I have never been to Greece, but I love you image, Jude.
It is a fascinating country Dina, so much ancient history and I think you’d love island hopping.
A perfectly engaging scene and I enjoyed the accompanying words. Sigh…wish I was there but this will do.
Thanks Cynthia. Anywhere dry would suit me right now!
Aren’t we lucky people to have such memories?
If only I could remember faces as well. The OH and I play the game of “I know that face, what was he/she in” when watching TV.
