Home thoughts from abroad is a new series on Travel Words featuring a single photograph that reminds me of a country visited and showing something that uniquely identifies it as being ‘abroad’.

It is my birthday today. A significant number though not one of the BIG ones. Seems big enough to me though. So I am going to indulge in a bit of nostalgia today.Β This photo is from a place I used to live in, a place I used to love and where I spent several years with my then young family, the youngest of which was born just a few miles further along the coast from here – he is older now than I was then.
Muizenberg is my favourite beach in the entire world. I might be slightly biased as it was my home for several years and I lived only a 5 minute walk away from this beautiful white sandy beach with its iconic beach-huts; a favourite beach with surfers with stunning views across False Bay to Cape Point. ItΒ was a dream location with the added bonus of seeing whales in the bay during the winter. A sight I shall never forget no matter how old I am.
Happy Birthday! Hope you are doing something fun, beautiful or fabulous. Or even better all three as it’s a significant one xxx
Well we were going to go away, but things happened (like the conservatory roof) so that has been put on hold. I think we’ll treat ourselves to a few days away somewhere soon.
Ah yes life . . . . . well enjoy the day, and fingers crossed that treat away is soon xx
Happy Birthday, Jude! Sending birthday hugs, and hope you have a lovely day! This image is certainly bright and cheerful, gets a mist day off to a good start
If only I was on that beach today. Sigh…!
Life is full of ‘if only’s
Well, we went out and found an equally lovely beach in the sunshine, so although there were no beach huts it ended up being a lovely afternoon.
Excellent!
Nice memories of that lovely beach.
And Happy Birthday. Every number becomes ‘significant’, after a certain point. π
Best wishes a always, Pete. x
I’d rather just ignore birthdays, as well as Christmas and Halloween!
I love my birthday. But you knew that. π
I did π
Happy birthday, Jude!
Thank you Anabel π It’s a pretty dreich day though – thick fog! Can only just see the bottom of the garden!
Oh dear! Hope you can brighten it with celebration.
Happy birthday lovely lady! Third time lucky on here ππ. No wonder you miss it. It looks fabulous. Sending hugs and sunshine Jude. Far too hot here to be scraping paint off but Mick’s hard at it. James has interviews this week. Fingers crossed. Eyes too! Have a fab day π xx
Send me some of that sunshine pleeeease! Thick fog again today and it doesn’t look at all like shifting! Tell that man of yours to take it easy. He’s got all the time in the world now to fix the place up. And good luck for James.
A wonderful colourful picture of a favoured location π Happy, happy birthday Jude. Hope you are making your day extra special π₯
I’d rather be celebrating there Jo. Nothing special doing here, weather is horrid – thick fog – so even a walk in a garden is pointless. It’s really just another day, but we will go to the pub for dinner tonight.
Personally, I’d be walking out in that fog. We don’t get much fog where I am so I always think of it as a little magical. Thick fog would be like walking in a fairy tale. I sometimes deliberately walk without my camera. Obviously this would be one of those times!!
Hope you have a great dinner tonight. I shall raise a glass (of red) to you this evening π
What a lovely place to grow up. I like the way the roofs mimic the rock. Sending virtual hugs and happy birthday wishes streaming your way.
Thanks Susan. I need some strong puffs to shift this darn fog!
Happy wishes to you Jude from False Bay! It is a stunning day today. It is a glorious beach …. though you would see many changes, especially near Surfer’s Corner. There’s a great vibe in the village and some super artisanal food shops. Love to go for coffee and cake at the “Knead” bakery π
Sounds buzzing! And I do enjoy a good food shop π
Happy Birthday!
Muizenberg memories – a pair of Durban university students, hitchhiking and arriving late. We slept the night on that beach! Don’t think I’d try that now, though.
Probably not a good idea. It did have (and maybe still does) a good youth hostel.
Well, this combination (Muizenberg + birthday) can only lead to one thing: Gelukkige Verjaarsdag! Heppiheppiheppi! I hope you had (and are still having) a wonderful day!
Thank you! It wasn’t a great start weather-wise, but turned out to be beautiful in the end.
