Monday Washing

Andrew of ‘Have Bag, Will Travel’ is running a weekly challenge all about photographs of washing lines. I knew I had a couple of rather lovely washing lines, but a look through my archives resulted in a few more. Another one  from Venice.

Heyjude

I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

  1. Well done you. I thought I had loads, but I can’t find any more. I’ll be reduced to photo-ing my own washing – not today though. Chucking it down.

      1. I have Arles, but on a slide which I can’t scan (as my 20 year old scanner has died), Porto, maybe Lisbon, and Lucca

    1. Yes, I like the alternative version. I’m sure most of these were focused on the buildings rather than washing, but they fit the brief.

  2. Your wider photograh and the lady with the airer puts washing lines into a whole different perspective. Nice to see a bit of space in Venice.

  3. We don’t have anywhere to hang a clothes line here but I have one of those racks very much like the white one the lady’s using. Here we’re allowed to have clothes out as long as no one can see them. Thankfully, all the backyards have walls so unless someone is really trying, I’m safe. I just have a hard time imagining that hanging out laundry is a problem.

    1. I had that problem when we lived in a flat and then a town house. Nowhere outside to hang washing. It was so nice when we moved here to get a rotary drier and hang out sheets for the first time in 10 years.

      1. Since I just have the one rack and don’t care to buy another one, I do one load at a time. It’s so dry here and our washer gets out lots of water that I can hang shirts and other tops up in the closet and they not only don’t drip but dry in a day. Everything else I put on the rack outside or inside, depending on the weather. Once in a while I use the dryer and it’s nice to have it even if I try to never use it. 🙂
