A – Z of Locations: A is for Aberdovey

During this year I shall be posting photographs from places around the UK, many of which have not been published before. Where I have previously blogged about a location I will provide a link to the post, though you won’t be able to comment on it as I restrict comments to six months.

Let’s start with A for Aberdovey/Aberdyfi.

Aberdyfi is a thriving little harbour resort set within the Snowdonia National Park, where the river Dyfi meets the blue waters of Cardigan Bay.

I didn’t know very much about Wales before I met the OH and moved to live with him in Shrewsbury in 2002. Weekends saw us popping over the border on many occasions. This was on a very cold February day and I recall having a lovely lunch in the picturesque Dovey Inn overlooking these stunning views of the estuary.

Beautiful views on the way to Aberdovey

Heyjude

I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

    1. I had only been to Wales once before I met the OH and that wasn’t for a good occasion. Whilst living in Shropshire we spent quite a lot of time in the country, both close i.e. Powys and further afar such as Pembrokeshire. We even honeymooned in Portmeirion! It’s a lovely country, great beaches, interesting castles and mountains too.

      1. I always liked what we saw. We must go back. At least I have been, unlike N Ireland which I have never visited (but would like to). Where we live now it’s just so hard to look past Scotland and the Lake District. Too much choice!

  1. Lovely spot. I like how you’re choosing themes such as the 12 days of Christmas and now the A-Z landscapes. I may have to do something like this (with a theme of some sort, not A-Z landscapes.)

    1. I have found that a theme makes me concentrate on the photos to select rather than just randomly choosing them. Of course a challenge open to others is another way of using the blog.

    1. Thanks Brian. Hopefully the photos will continue to be good, though some of the letters will pose a challenge!

    1. A really good cold winter’s day. One nice thing about living in Shropshire was the easy access to Wales.

  2. SNAP, as I had similar thoughts regarding A – Z in NZ. Wonderful images, Jude, and the Wales countryside is a picture perfect place though I am sure the weather is more challenging than the UK.

    1. I have thought about an A-Z in Cornwall, but some letters are difficult to track down. I might have to give that one more thought. I’d love to learn more about NZ though so hope you give it more thought.

      1. My ability to stay focused on any given task is not the best at the moment so it may be a while before I do it.

    1. I keep changing my mind on the letters, some are much easier than others so there might be some oddballs in the mix.

  3. What a great idea Jude ! It will certainly throw up some new places to discover .
Aberdovey I’ve only visited fleetingly on one of our dusting off days but would be more than happy to find myself that way again . Super weather for your February photograph !

    1. It’s very pretty scenery around that area, I only wish we could have more drier days to explore this winter so I could capture some equally lovely Cornish scenes. alas it has been wet for weeks. And I mean WET!!!

      1. πŸ˜‰ Ah yes I know WET conditions in Cornwall very well too Jude Lol
        I’ll keep 🀞 for you !
