Way back in 2015 – yes that really is ten years ago – I decided to post photos of the numerous benches sitting in my folders. It seemed that I was not alone and suddenly it turned into the Bench Challenge where I set a particular criterion each month and people joined in posting their bench photos. It was a lot of fun and I met a lot of wonderful bloggers through it.

This year I am returning to mark the occasion by posting a bench photo every Sunday. There will not be any particular theme set this year so it’s not really much of a challenge, but if there is anyone out there who still has a bucketful of bench photos and would like to join me, then please do so by adding a link in the comments or a link to my post in yours (a pingback) and I will happily pop along to admire.
If I walked all the way down there, I’d probably need a bench, Jude xx
Depends where you walked from! There is a car park close by… We hope to pop down there next week before the whole county becomes impossible to drive in.
Sounds like a plan. I’m busy organising the August Bank Holiday and beyond. It’s like a jigsaw puzzle xx
I need to organise a trip east to visit the new grandchild, but it’s exhausting trying to find places that are available / got a walk in shower / close to a town so we don’t have to drive everywhere / not too expensive!
Why not a hotel in town, with all the conveniences? Easier, surely, for a few days xx
Yes, a hotel is fine, but I’m not going all that way just for a few days. I want to tag on a holiday. It’s a good 7 hour drive.
What a vivid blue the sea is. Weather looks perfect for sitting a while. I’ve been bench spotting this week Jude https://retiredfromgypsylife.wordpress.com/2025/06/29/brunswick-heads-benches/
You wouldn’t want to sit here when the wind is blowing!
I left a long comment on your post PP, but I think it may have gone into spam. Please check!
Not sure where to find the spam 🤔
If you goto WPADMIN you should see comments and spam
Thanks Jude, I found the spam and yes your lovely comment was there + one from Sue Judd
I’ve now found it in spam. No idea why it would go there. But told the powers that be that it was not spam…
A very distinguished bench in that case – if not in looks, in situation.
One to pause on and scout for whales. And no I have yet to see one down here.
That’s a nice sturdy bench. We really enjoyed the Lizard Peninsula when we were there, way back in 2016. Goodness, already nine years ago.
The Lizard is very remote, we haven’t explored much of it to be honest, but Kynance Cove and Lizard Point are lovely – but definitely not places to visit in August!
It’s been a long time since I last visited there.
It’s been quite a while since I did – 2019 I think.
I bet that well-situated bench gets a lot of use. Here’s mine: https://margaret21.com/2025/06/29/a-cooling-bench/
A nice spot to take in the view and try to spot whales or choughs.
Haha, I’m reading this comment in the Reader, and initially thought you were commenting on my post. Whales in Norh Yorkshire …..
You never know!
Never seen one in the River Ure!
No, but just wait until the North Sea warms up 🥵
😉
What a beautiful blue sea and a marvellously placed bench!
The sea around Cornwall can be spectacular. The sea around the Lizard can also be very rough.
Indeed ! Wild…
