After spending five days in Cape Town it was time to head for the road and the Garden Route, one of the most spectacular regions in South Africa.

Do you like taking alternative routes?
In Cape Town one thing dominates the horizon, and that is Table Mountain – not Table Top as I have heard it called, but simply Table. There are several such named mountains in the world, but only one with views like this one.
Make sure you get up to the top if the weather is good – you won’t regret it.

Before leaving the Cape Peninsula I decided to take a drive along the coast of False Bay and then head east to Hermanus, a town I have been to frequently and a favourite spot for Capetonians.
Have you seen whales in the wild? Gone diving with sharks? Or maybe just done a spot of kite-surfing?

Now you have had a taster of what to expect in the Mother City, it is time to take a drive around the peninsula to find penguins, ostriches and take one of the most scenic drives in the world.
Maybe you have visited Cape Point? Did you enjoy the trip? And maybe one of my South African buddies will be able to add more places you could stop by at on this route that I have forgotten to mention.

In 2008 I returned to South Africa for a two-week road trip along with my OH who had never been to Africa. I wanted to show him where I had lived for many years and revisit old haunts. I am re-blogging this series as it was written at the start of my blogging career
