Bench series #47

For the month of November I’m looking for a bench with either a message OR  an Autumnal theme

(any kind of writing will do, it could be a message, a plaque, a dedication or even a map)

Latin; literally 'hear the other side'.
audi partem alteram – bench in Bishop’s Castle Shropshire

The Latin maxim audi alteram partem, one of the most cherished and sacrosanct principles of law, has evolved from three simple Latin words to mean that no person shall be condemned, punished or have any property or legal right compromised by a court of law without having heard that person. Literally – “listen to the other side”

…and no, I don’t know why the words on this bench are in the incorrect order.

If you would like to join in with the Bench photo challenge then please take a look at my Bench Series page. No complicated rules, just a bench and a camera required 🙂

  • Create your own post and title it Bench Series: November
  • Include a link to this page in your post so others can find it too
  • Add the tag ‘bench series’ so everyone can find the benches easily in the WP Reader
  • Get your post in by the end of the month, as the new bench theme comes out on the first Sunday in December.

My Picks of the Week:

First off, Debbie brings us a bench with history, as does Anabel whilst Violetsky has a poignant message this week and Eklastic finds a sad memorial. Whoever Charles was, I love his curvy bench, brought to you by Kaz, and then there is a trio of autumnal benches by Jo, Majka and Gilly. And a bench with its own phone number? Perhaps you have to ring ahead to reserve a seat 😉
And finally a bit more Gaelic from Elaine “O sit closer and let us sing a song”
(There seems to be quite a few Scottish links this week – even from the USA)

As always there are so many delightful benches to view, I hope you will check out the other links within the comment section.

My Picks of the Week:

It seems appropriate that benches with messages in memory of the wars were posted last week: Cee , Sylvia and Ruth have dedications to service-men and women the world over.
On a lighter note Kaz has a message from someone who is very much alive and Anabel has found the smallest departure lounge in the world!
Daily Musings found a pretty carved bench with a difference whilst newcomer Julie, and old-timer, Dawn (I mean that in the nicest way) have benches with quotes. Dawn even manages to get hers with an autumnal feel! I really need to get my memorial bench sorted!

As always there are so many delightful benches to view, I hope you will check out the other links within the comment section.

My Picks of the Week:

Some very exciting messages spotted this week – have a look at Violetsky, Anabel and Elaine for interesting inscriptions. And Dawn is looking Shady this week.
Debbie and a newcomer Junk Boat Travels have benches with a political message, who’d have thought that?
Tish as usual has a bench with a story, can’t keep a good writer down, whilst Judy has the most beautiful commemorative bench that I have seen. I’m sure they’d all love you to pop in and say hi.

As always there are so many delightful benches to view, including several newcomers,  I hope you will check out the other links within the comment section.

santa cruz
I’ll start off with a message.

I love the ones on benches in the USA often showing a great sense of humour – this one is at Santa Cruz, California. I saw one with “June’s bench of Hugs” but sadly didn’t take a photograph. Now I want to know what kind of guy Brett Gardner was. Casual I guess 🙂

My Picks of the Week:

The last of the occupied benches came in throughout the week, most with real people rather than sculptures.  Violetsky has some unusual mums on benches, more mums from Elaine, whilst Sue goes for a male on a bench and Sylvia has grand-kidlets amongst others! Ruth finds some yarn bombing, but the scariest occupied bench has to be this one. What do you think?

As always there are so many delightful benches to view, I hope you will check out the other links within the comment section. And thank you all for your overwhelming response in October – it seems that a lot of you like to photograph benches that are occupied.

Bench series #43

For the month of October I’m looking for a bench with someone or something sitting on it

(any kind of bench will do, but there must be at least one person, animal or object on the bench)

peacock in glenwhan garden
This week it is a ‘something’ – a peacock in the Glenwhan Garden, Dumfries and Galloway

Well it is the last week for your occupied benches, as we start something new next Sunday. I have been inundated with benches this week, many more with sculptures and even stranger objects! And I am loving the ones set up especially for the challenge 🙂

My Picks of the Week:

My first pick has to be this beautiful bench in Melbourne that would have fitted nicely into the unusual category, but luckily has a lovely young man perched on it;
Lisa (Daily Musings) makes me laugh with her take on a bench with a sculpture from the prolific Seward Johnson. Take a look at her last week’s bench too, sure to make you smile. And more from America from Dawn(1)  who captures a well-located bench(2) that many cyclists are deeply grateful for.
Meanwhile in England Sue’s couple are simply admiring the view. Gilly on the other hand has set a challenge. Anyone know where this is? And the restless one gives us a Smörgåsbord of benches. Grumpily 😀
More from the folk who live upside down: DJ finds a lazy bench for lazing on and Ruth has been scouring the streets in Tassie. Whilst Kaz has a view to die for if you are waiting for the ferry.

Thank you everyone, new and old for all for the delightful benches sent my way, and a small mention to all those noisy ones that shout out my name as you go past! Sorry about that 😉
