WPC: Mirror

There are lots of ways to interpret this challenge and I have used mirror reflections such as images reflected in an actual mirror; shiny metallic objects; glass and probably the most common – reflections in water – before.

But yesterday I was fortunate to be able to visit the famous Beth Chatto Gardens in Essex and although she is best known for her gravel garden, there is a lot more to see including the lovely feature pools.

Curves

Following on from Paula’s challenge last week which was all about lines, the WP challenge this week is about curves. Curves and lines are important ways in which to compose an image, and draw the viewer in. Curves are also fun to photograph.

A curvaceous entrance in to the walled garden leads you to all sorts of curves

Outside the walled garden is a pathway lined with mounds of neatly clipped yew

Paris in Springtime

Paula’s black and white Sunday this week is delicate. Now my selected image may not conjure up fine craftsmanship or intricate textures, but I am aiming for a sense of elegance and grace with these lovely trees providing an intimate framework for the pleasures of Parisians enjoying the spring air.

le jardin de plantes b&w

Lovers sitting on a bench, a child playing, families strolling through le Jardin des Plantes, the main botanical garden in France which lies in the 5th arrondissement of Paris on the left bank of the Seine. This photo reminds me of the sort of picture we used to study at school during our French lessons in order to learn the vocabulary and practice speaking. So many details to find.

Christmas Glow

From Thursday 3 December until Sunday 3 January RHS Wisley added to the enjoyment of the festive season with the Jigantics light installations in the shape of magical, giant lit-up flowers.

Of course you have to wait until dusk before the show really begins.

If you enjoy a walk, long or short, then have a look at Jo’s site where you are welcome to join in.

And I guess this could also be a post for my January challenge: Winter Gardens!
