This weekly challenge is hosted by Dawn from ‘The Day After’ who invites participants to post pictures of any windows that they find curious, inviting, photogenic, or in some way tell a story. Visit her blog to see more windows and/or to join in with the challenge.

This week I am featuring a few windows where the subject was not in fact the window, but a cat. In the header photo the cat is perched beneath the open sash – a decidedly dicey option in my opinion.

My blogging friend and expert photographer, Tina of Travels and Trifles, has been experimenting lately with textures and artistic effects. I have played around with a few of these before, usually to disguise a less than brilliant photo, but this time I thought I’d give it a go as these windows aren’t exactly exciting. Thanks Tina for inspiring me to play around with my photos.

Cats- and windows-! You had to get them in somewhere…
Nice stuff as always Jude.
Regards from Norfolk, Pete. x
Well, the challenge IS about windows 😀
I read it too quickly, and thought it was about cats! Sorry…x
No worries 😀
LOVE these Jude, but then I would since I love windows and cats so the perfect combination! Really like the special effects too, they look like watercolours. Wonderful 🙂 xx
Thanks Sherri – I miss my cats 😦 though have to admit it is easier to travel without having the responsibilities of animals to care for.
Yes, this is true. Always a trade-off isn’t there…
Interesting shots. A cat in a window just says “home”. I must admit I mostly use artistic effects to hide bad shots too. 🙂
Haha.. I hadn’t realised there were so many of us that did that!
And yes, a cat does say “home”, maybe that’s why I feel where I am living at the moment isn’t.
Purrfect 🙂
Thought you might like it Sarah – how are your girls doing? They must be getting big now, haven’t seen a photo for a while 😀
The girls are great 🙂 Yes, they are getting big now! They’ve been spayed so we’re planning on letting them out soon. It’s very nerve-racking after what happened to Pixel but it wouldn’t be fair to keep them inside. I really should share some new photos of them soon!
I can understand your reluctance, that was a horrible time. Some cats are indoors all the time, but it doesn’t seem natural.
There are cats that choose to stay indoors. My old cat Pan was one, he was agoraphobic! Cats with certain illnesses or disabilities have to be kept indoors but for most cats it’s completely unnatural and cruel to keep them shut inside.
For cats . . . it’s always more interesting on the other side of the sash.
He’s probably looking for birds in that magnolia tree!
These are so pretty Jude. Effects to hide less than brilliant photos. Hmmm. Might have to try that. 🙂
It works!! I used to delete all my bad photos, but now I will hang into those which are less than perfect especially if it is the only shot I have of something such as this image with the two crosses:

I see Jude. An interesting thing I had not thought of. Thank you!
I saw Tina’s post too and quietly applauded. I will play sometimes, when it suits, but in this instance the star of the show was the magnolia, which looks wonderful in that first shot. Spring is definitely here, Jude 🙂
The lovely thing this year is that there has been no late frosts to burn the flowers – looking great! And I even have a camellia in a pot that is flowering.
Fun special effects, Jude! Love the cat angle. 🙂
Thanks Cathy, just random photos of cats with windows! Nice excuse to post them 🙂
Great cattitude on the windows! 🙂 The last one’s my favourite.

I have a fondness for ginger cats 🙂
I can see why! 🙂
Beautiful windows enhanced by cats. 🙂
Yep. The cats rule 🙂
