What a wonderfulย treat!
I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling. View all posts by Heyjude

Yum! They look delish.
They were. So much so I dragged OH back to this restaurant so I could have another bowl!
Mmnnnnnn mussels…..
Must ask for mussels for a birthday treat. Yum. Have you an extra serviette?
Sadly all gone Tess – I’ll save you some next time ๐
Oh I definitely agree Jude – especially when served with crusty french bread in a sauce just waiting for dipping!!!
Exactly! Though I have been disappointed with the sauce sometimes, not usually the ones from the coast and definitely not this one. So good I went back again!
When we visit any coast such seafood treats are so wonderful. A bit landlocked here.
Landlocked here too, though not as far away from the coast as you guys are! You must get some good fish from those lakes though.
There is some freshwater trout in higher end restaurants but it’s not common.
That’s a shame.
I came looking for benches, which I much prefer to mussels. Perhaps not to eat, though ๐ I don’t really like any shell fish, not even the prawns everyone drools about. But I do love fish! And your header pic is sensational ๐ (that’s what you were up to instead of trick or treating ๐ ) I thought it was a beach shot that you’d played about with, Jude, but I love it, whatever! Back later to check out the bench. See ya! ๐
That New Zealand beach (black sand) was incredible. I really hope son moves there whilst I am still able to fly that distance. I’d love to spend a few months travelling around that country. And I’ll have your prawns ๐
Wonderful pictures Jude the New Zealand shells are gorgeous. The thought of eating shell fish makes me shudder so we won’t fight over them!
OK. I’ll have your lobster and prawns then ๐
Mmmmm fresh seafood. Delicious. We had fresh whiting and scallops, caught the same day, for lunch the other day. Then in the supermarket we saw scallops imported from Peru. What a disgrace. And I couldn’t help wondering how old they were.
If only we could get back to eating local produce then I think we’d all be better off (except those making money out of it) and eat fresh when in season, instead of stuff kept for months in refrigeration ๐ฆ
(Sorry, I seem to be in a rant mood lately)
A new greengrocer has opened near us. They only source local produce in season. I haven’t been yet but a friend has and she tells me the produce is amazing. I will definitely be supporting them.
I try to buy local produce too, as much as possible.
I love your psychedelic shell picture! And there is nothing like fresh, local food.
Moules et frites can’t be beat…must have a nice beer on the side too!
…or a good glass of Sauvignon blanc ๐
I adore mussels and what an amazing shot, but your header photo is absolutely beautiful. Are those the actual colour of those shells, or enhanced by the sun? They’re stunning…
The New Zealand mussel shells are a myriad of colours Sherri, I couldn’t believe how beautiful they were.
Oh they really are Jude, I had no idea. New Zealand grows on me more and more, would so love to go there one day..
It is beautiful Sherri. I only saw a very small part, but fell in love. I could live there, but too late now unless I divorce OH and find myself a Kiwi ๐
I remember your wonderful NZ posts from last year Jude…where does the time go? Not so sure OH would be keen on that idea ๐
