Home thoughts from abroad is a new series on Travel Words featuring a single photograph that reminds me of a country visited and showing something that uniquely identifies it as being ‘abroad’.
I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

What country? It’s a very evocative photo. Just doesn’t evoke a particular place for this limited traveller!
Could be anyway on the Med I suppose, but this was in Greece. Definitely not English!
I wasn’t sure either but I read the tags. 🙂 🙂 I think you ought to include a few memories with this series, but what do I know? 🙂 Thursday morning hugs!
These are not that long ago despite the look – pre-digital camera which had a few problems. You off out then today?
Still in jamas, sunk in gloom and cheering myself up with squares. 🙂 🙂
It’s another bright start to the day today, whether it lasts is anyone’s guess, but I might venture out for another beach walk a little later. Or maybe scout the lanes for some signs of spring. Had a funny turn last night, was burning up and felt dreadfully sick and headachy, but felt fine a few hours later. Quite odd. You need to rest for a couple of days then get on with ‘The Plan’.
Yes, I suppose doldrums is inevitable. Came home to a death too (friend from way back) Never helps. You look after yourself. The Squares are cheering. 🙂 🙂
Goodness, you look after yourself, Jude
Teehee, like your suggestion, Jo!
Did you notice she ignored it in the reply, Sue? 🙂
I’m thinking about it….
Ah! The Oracle speaks xx
Absolutely…😟
Very Mediterranean in feel. Definitely ‘abroad’.
Best wishes, Pete. x
Which is where I should be. Warm sunshine, blue skies, fresh figs…
Take me! Take me!
OK.
I was thinking either Tuscany or Greece, and so I was a very happy bunny when I read the tags 🙂
The shutters definitely take you to mainland Europe.
Most likely Mediterranean. It’s the white wash. 🙂
Or, as Liz pointed out, South Africa.
That looks so much like a scene from the ‘Cape’ ….. Franschoek-ish! So Greece it is. Love the viticulture aspect, lush vines rambling all over the place.
Oh, yes I guess it could have been. But then the Cape has a Mediterranean feel to it too.
I agree with Jo, I’d love to read a few memories. It does look like it could be anywhere in the Mediterranean. I love the whitewashed house and the lush gardens. Hope you feel good now, Jude!
I’m fine thanks Cathy, just an odd couple of hours. Possibly the onset of a migraine, but I don’t usually feel sick with one. Or have a raging temperature. I’ll think about Jo’s suggestion 🙂
How strange, Jude. I’m glad you’re better now!
You do have some great ideas Jude!
I also have LOTS of photos Gilly 🙂
So pretty and rural. It looks hot too, with all that sunshine bursting out of my screen. We have yet to go to Greece, but it is on the list.
I’d love to go island hopping in Greece again, but it wouldn’t be the same as it was decades ago.
I like this idea, Jude! Looking forward to future posts….
