Home thoughts from abroad is a new series on Travel Words featuring a single photograph that reminds me of a country visited and showing something that uniquely identifies it as being ‘abroad’.

A bus from Valetta took us out to the village. It was May. We walked down to the harbour to admire the many colourful luzzu with their ‘eye.’ We browsed the market stalls and watched a policeman in conversation with some of the fishermen. I vaguely remember an argument leading to us making our own way back to the bus stop. Sleepless nights due to the heat and uncomfortable mattresses was making us cranky…
The colours here are so vibrant. I was in Malta nearly 30 years ago now, and really enjoyed our time there.
It is a very interesting island to explore. Apart from our horrible hotel, we also enjoyed our visit.
We hired a car for a few days and went exploring, but also spent a fair bit of time relaxing by the hotel pool I seem to recall. 🙂
You must have stayed in a more decent hotel than we did.
It was pretty basic I suppose, but it had a good pool (plain rectangular one, but full of water and with space around it and sun loungers 🙂 )
