Life in Colour

To find out more about this year’s photo challenge here on Travel Words, please read this post.

This month we will be looking for Green. Green signals new life in spring, fresh green leaves, the shoots of new bulbs emerging from the soil. It is a cool and soothing colour, bringing us moisture and shade.

“Meanwhile the mind,
from pleasures less,
Withdraws into
its happiness…
Annihilating all that’s made
To a green thought
in a green shade

~ Andrew Marvell

It’s easy to find shades of green in nature, but what else can you discover?

Heyjude

I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

  1. You have some wonderful illustrations here, Jude! What is that green sculptural piece? And I love the cricket on the green 🙂 🙂 Have a lovely Sunday!

    1. You probably know the green bottles – down in Belem. And it IS a beautiful Sunday, if only we could go somewhere.

        1. But we can only go local and we have done local to death. Gardens have to be pre-booked and the beach will be swamped in the sunny weather. The bottles are outside the Cultural Centre – Modern Art Museum not far from the Discovery Monument. Well worth a visit next time you are in Lisbon.

        2. Same here but no gardens and the beach is out of bounds. You’ll have to go up that hill of yours again 🤣 Didn’t do the Modern Art Museum 🤪💕

        3. Hill and lanes are a bit muddy from all the rain. I have a lovely walk for you next week that will make you laugh! Truth is I am a bit bored with being local.

        4. Well, we all are! But since we’ve given the politicians carte blanc to see us past Covid there doesn’t seem to be much alternative, does there? Believe me you’ll be free faster in the UK than we will here. Roll on the laughter 🤣🤣

        5. But you have the weather to enjoy outdoors, not cooped up inside for most of the winter. Sigh… mustn’t grumble too much, there may be a brief period where we locals can roam a bit further before the staycationers arrive. And another garden opens tomorrow, yay!

  2. No nature….blimey woman, that’s stretching it for me. I’ll give a good go before I crack no doubt 🙂 🙂

    1. Well nature isn’t forbidden, but it will be nice to see what else is out there. Having visited you I am very impressed with your selection. 😘

  3. Lovely examples, Jude. And we’ll all be tumbling over one another to post pictures from the natural world, in all its green loveliness, but leave that out …. and I at least may struggle. Give me a day or two …

  4. Well, a lovely bit of green and verdant is do-able….but green anywhere else?? Hmmm

  5. It will be very interesting to see what else! I’m sure we’ll have plenty of other greens but it’s hard to think what when green is so tightly ties to nature in our heads.
I love those green-trimmed arches. Perfect decoration

  6. I love the sculptural garden ‘wall’ of green too
…I could contribute a selfie, Jude – I’m always ‘green with envy’ at your wonderful photography skills!!
    E 🙂

  7. One of the first things that struck me when I started to walk around Beetley with Ollie was just how many different shades of green there are to be seen. All I remember of London is grass, and Plane Tree leaves. Over on Hoe Rough alone, you could easily find more than 20 different shades.
    Best wishes, Pete. x

    1. There are many shades of green as you have mentioned from bright lime to dark olive. It will be fun to see what everyone finds.
