Life in Colour

To find out more about this year’s photo challenge here on Travel Words, please read this post.

This month we will be looking for Purple. A secondary colour made from red and blue, though you can find many different shades of purple. Try to stay clear of violet though as that will be making its own appearance. Although found in nature in shades of crocuses, lilacs, and irises look for the bruised colours in a sunrise or sunset, an indigo sea, a full moon in an inky sky. The darkness of a red wine, a rich velvet curtain or a starling’s wing.

“Colours are the smiles of Nature.
When they are extremely smiling,
and break forth into other beauty besides,
they are her laughs;
as in the flowers.”

~Leigh Hunt as Poet and Essayist (1889)

What purples can you find in Nature?

Heyjude

I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

  1. I’m sure you will do well with your new colour challenge, Jude. You got off to a great start. 🙂
    The only purple I can find is a small bruise on my hand. I will spare you that.
    Best wishes, Pete. x

        1. Yes. Watched the MotoGP and Australian Jack Miller won. Too pumped to sleep. Did try to go to bed at midnight. Will have another go in 10 minutes at 1AM x

    1. Mmm… yes that’s the only one I can find too and all the quotes I find seem to have the American spelling.

  2. Purple is a difficult one. I may have to wait for the Irises to bloom, or dig out my last fancy-dress outfit, a purple fringed 1920’s job.

    1. Irises are lovely, the purple dress on the other hand sounds extremely interesting. No photos of you wearing it?
