To find out more about this year’s photo challenge here on Travel Words, please read this post.
This month we will be looking for Purple. A secondary colour made from red and blue, though you can find many different shades of purple. Try to stay clear of violet though as that will be making its own appearance. Although found in nature in shades of crocuses, lilacs, and irises look for the bruised colours in a sunrise or sunset, an indigo sea, a full moon in an inky sky. The darkness of a red wine, a rich velvet curtain or a starling’s wing.
“Colours are the smiles of Nature.
When they are extremely smiling,
and break forth into other beauty besides,
they are her laughs;
as in the flowers.”~Leigh Hunt as Poet and Essayist (1889)

I’m sure you will do well with your new colour challenge, Jude. You got off to a great start. 🙂
The only purple I can find is a small bruise on my hand. I will spare you that.
Best wishes, Pete. x
Thanks Pete I appreciate the thought. 😂
A lovely gallery to start the challenge Jude. Love them all 🙂 🙂
Possibly a couple of violets though. Oops!
Real life purple Jude. Tried hard not to be too un-purple 😀
What on earth are you doing up? Isn’t it the middle of the night over there?
Yes. Watched the MotoGP and Australian Jack Miller won. Too pumped to sleep. Did try to go to bed at midnight. Will have another go in 10 minutes at 1AM x
The Leigh Hunt I know is the English poet:

The American spelling of color in your citation seems to point to a different Leigh Hunt, though perhaps whoever recently disseminated the quotation respelled the word.
Mmm… yes that’s the only one I can find too and all the quotes I find seem to have the American spelling.
I found the passage with the British spelling in the 1889 book Leigh Hunt as Poet and Essayist:

Well done! That’s a rather lovely essay. I shall alter the spelling now. And thank you!
Purple is a difficult one. I may have to wait for the Irises to bloom, or dig out my last fancy-dress outfit, a purple fringed 1920’s job.
Irises are lovely, the purple dress on the other hand sounds extremely interesting. No photos of you wearing it?
Oooooh, purple. What a fun colour. The tree in the image you shared is stunning!
Jacaranda. A favourite of mine, though it’s looking a bit violet in this photo!
