I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

Way back in 2015 – yes that really is ten years ago – I decided to post photos of the numerous benches sitting in my folders. It seemed that I was not alone and suddenly it turned into the Bench Challenge where I set a particular criterion each month and people joined in posting their bench photos. It was a lot of fun and I met a lot of wonderful bloggers through it.
And because I am also participating in Becky’s January Squares today’s photo is square! Bench in the Memorial Garden, Penzance
This year I am returning to mark the occasion by posting a bench photo every Sunday. Wall Drawing #1136 Curved and straight colour bands 2004 is composed of bands of vibrant acrylic paint applied directly onto the walls. It has been produced for Tate St Ives by a team of draftspersons, guided by an assistant from the artist’s estate.
Sol LeWitt (1928–2007) revolutionised art in the 1960s with his notion that ‘the idea becomes a machine that makes the art’. The drawing has been adapted from LeWitt’s original plan to work with the complex architecture of the gallery space, while retaining precise details such as the sequence of colours and bands. Each band is of the same width and there is no area of the wall left unpainted. The work incorporates every primary (red, yellow, blue) and secondary (green, orange, purple) colour, plus grey.
