Having an Extra Day

extra 1

We were supposed to leave Scotland today and return home, but unknown to us when we booked to stay in Kirkcudbright,  this was the week of their Jazz festival and today was the Jazz Brolly Parade. Now I don’t know about you, but I haven’t seen a Brolly Parade so this I wanted to see. Fortunately we managed to get an EXTRA day in our accommodation. So join in!

Gourmet Capital in the Western Cape

After a lovely leisurely road-trip through the Garden Route we headed back to the Western Cape, deciding to spend our last three nights in Franschhoek. If this post doesn’t entice you to at least consider a trip to the Western Cape, then I don’t know what will.

The last post in my South African holiday in 2008 – I hope you have enjoyed it. I certainly have – and once again, please leave your comments on the original post.

Where is your favourite foodie town? Please let me know, I’m always up for a visit 🙂

A Lingering Look at Scottish Windows

This week in Kirkcudbright — pronounced Kirr-coo-bree — I have been checking out the property in the old town, notable for its colourful façades.  Obviously an excuse to have a  lingering look at the windows.

Some are very colourful:

bright-pink
Barbie Pink House on Union Street
colourful
Pretty Blue House on Castle Street
pink-and-purple
What about pink and purple?

Some are very elegant:

Grey and White Villa
broughton-house
Broughton House

Others are unusual:

And then there are those that entice you to enter:

shop-1

or just wonder about:

Local red sandstone – note the pilasters and capitals

This weekly challenge is hosted by Dawn from ‘The Day After’ who invites participants to post pictures of any windows that  they find curious, inviting, photogenic, or in some way tell a story. Visit her blog to see more windows and/or to join in with the challenge.

The Tsitsikamma Forest

Returning to Cape Town from seeing the elephants at Addo, once again we were travelling along the Garden Route, this time stopping in a different area to explore more of this lovely country. Surely the name alone will entice you to visit.

Come along and see what you are missing… comments as usual are welcome on the original post. See you there 🙂

W - Windmill

A lovely Grade II* listed windmill on the beautiful North Norfolk coast this windmill has been converted into a guest house where you can stay in one of the rooms on a B&B basis or self catering in one of the outbuildings. You can hire the entire windmill over Christmas if you have a few friends or family to share it with. With walks onto the salt-laden marshes straight from the front door it is a perfect place to get away from it all. Magic!
