Ailsa of “Where’s My Backpack?” likes to linger in the MIST this week. If you would like to join in with her challenge then please do. Everyone is welcome.
Thinking of misty times takes me back to my first visit to Canada in 2005 and more specifically to Vancouver Island. Way up north on Cormorant Island in the Queen Charlotte Strait lies the historical village of Alert Bay. Home of the ‘Namgis First Nation a former thriving fishing community and now a centre of Native art and culture as well as orca whale watching tours and fishing.
Although it was still August here the weather was distinctly autumnal with its “SEASON of mists and mellow fruitfulness!”
As the cloud descended over the far shore and the fog rose above the ocean that encircles the island we took to beach-combing along the shore and hiking in the ecological park, our eyes forever drawn to the grey mantle over the sea.
I LOVE the banner photo. It cries ‘frame me’. Alice would have 🙂
Curiouser and curiouser. Sadly not good enough quality – blame the mist.
xx
Not easy to get good shots in the mist Jude, but you managed it!
Regards as always, Pete. x
Cheers Pet, appreciate your lovely comment 🙂
Beautiful photos Jude, you’ve really captured what it feels like to be on the water surrounded by a misty day.
Very similar to the north-west coast I imagine? Didn’t spoil our time there, it just added to the atmosphere 🙂
Yes, these photos feel completely familiar even though I’ve never been to that particular area. I’m glad the weather just added another dimension to your trip. 🙂
Great watery, misty shots Jude! 🙂
Thank you Sue. I should get myself out and photograph the mist over the river here – we get it often enough!
Good idea….there’s a river nearish me, I should investigate at horrible hours of the day!
Hehe, not a morning person then?
I saw your comment on Dina’s lovely Norway post and suggested to Jo (the restless one) than we should get together and go there as we all said the same thing!
Teehee!
Very atmospheric pics, Jude. I visited Vancouver Island a few years ago, and had exactly the same weather.
Fortunately we did have some good weather too!
really nice – and I especially like the taller tree tops that rise above the rest – 🙂
There are a lot of trees up there!
I knew where you were the minute I saw the first photo. Well done on the Canadian mist.
Thank you Sue. Yes we had rather a lot of the Canadian mist in Alert Bay, but it was very atmospheric. Had some good sunsets too 🙂
Glad it was such a good opportunity to capture some beautiful shots. Really gorgeous country.
Now, you wouldn’t be a teeny weeniest bit biased here?
Totally and unequivocally biased. 🙂
There’s a certain kind of misty softness that is irresistible, Jude. That banner photo shot of yours is a pretty good capture. 🙂
Thanks Jo 🙂
Excellent examples Jude. So ethereal and moody! Nicely done.
Thanks Tina. Strange isn’t it that on holiday you just get out there whatever the weather. At home I huddle indoors! I need to take the camera out more regardless of the weather.
