Painting St Ives

All these images were taken through the windows of the café located on the roof of the Tate, St Ives. A slight glass distortion effect has been applied. The reflections are original 🙂

Gilly of Lucid Gypsy posted similar images from her recent visit to St Ives. I’m beginning to get the glimmer of an idea for a challenge here.

Heyjude

I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

    1. Thanks Jill, that was the impression I was aiming for! Because the images were photographed through glass I thought I’d emphasise that aspect. I only wish I COULD paint like this 🙂

  1. I love how Cornwall doesn’t change over the decades. The photos are rich in colour, and show off the coastal town so well. Do I correctly anticipate a theme of ‘through a window’ coming up?
    Regards as always, Pete. x

    1. I don’t think St Ives has changed much in 50 years Pete. No room here for new buildings, even the Tate was built on a former gasworks overlooking the Portmeor beach. Now how on earth anyone got permission to put such an ugly gasworks on such an incredible site amazes me! I don’t recall it though, so I suspect I never went to that side of the town. And of course all the net lofts and fishermen’s cottages which would have been a hive of activity are now converted into holiday lets. There are some art studios among them though which keeps the area alive. I’d love to roam the streets in winter when the tourists have gone.

Through a window could be a great idea, but not the one I was thinking of. Mmmm… food for thought. But it won’t happen any time soon as the bench challenge is almost a full-time job 😀

  2. “As I was going to St Ives” challenge? I have…er…one photograph. That I would have to scan because it was taken in the olden days. I’m a bit disappointed there’s only one but then this was in the days of processing film so we were a bit more restrained (plus I had to carry them all with me in my backpack so that was even more reason to be conservative with the photography). I do have other photos of the Cornish coast, including a “selfie” before they were cool. 😀

    1. Almost H. But not confined to St Ives 🙂
I almost feel that I need to retrace all my old journeys as I have very few photographic reminders of them. But for that I need to reclaim my youth and energy! I would like to see your St Ives photo though and your selfie 😀

  3. Gorgeous! We have pictures of the same view – even though the gallery was closed when we were there we were able to get up to the tearoom. The views are as good as art so some compensation!

    1. So you could join me and Gilly and post your photos to see how they compare! Interesting to see how we compose our images when faced with the exact same views.

        1. Holiday snaps are fine! Mine are just snaps too, you don’t have to use arty effects – Gilly hasn’t on hers.

        2. I did include one or two when I wrote up Cornwall last year. Again – reasons to go back! Haven’t planned what we are doing this autumn yet…..
