June Squares | Roofs

It’s June and another 30 day challenge from Becky.  ‘The Life of B’ This month she is looking for a roof or roofs or even rooves. Follow the link for the rules.

A Dutch Reformed Gothic style church with thatched roof. Becky’s roof with the stepped gables yesterday reminded me that there is a lot of Dutch inspired architecture in South Africa.

Heyjude

I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

  1. Love Franschhoek. Love the wine co-operative (not a chi-chi as other vineyard areas in South Africa). Re: Dutch influenced. It is … but tour the Camargue in the South of France and you will find that the French Hugueonots from that area had a big influence on what South Africans call “Dutch”. – Totally non-architectural: Have you ever had a merguez made of meat from the Camargue bulls? Notice any similarities to the typical flavour of a boerwors?

        1. Well, ’tis glorious weather you’re missing. Should still be around when you get back. Be like still being in Tavira!
