home thoughts from abroad

Home thoughts from abroad is a new series on Travel Words featuring a single photograph that reminds me of a country visited and showing something that uniquely identifies it as being ‘abroad’.

This pretty little restaurant is at Church Point 32kms north of Sydney and the large outdoor deck is suspended over the Pittwater – my son and his partner took me there for lunch and breakfast whilst I was visiting them in Sydney. The area is very beautiful and fairly quiet with a lovely walk around the water. An idyllic spot to watch the boats glide by. The Waterfront Cafe and Store is where the local residents of Scotland Island – mostly artists, writers and creative spirits – come to chill out, or pick up supplies.

I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

  1. Most definitely ‘abroad’, Jude. If I hadn’t been told it was Australia, I might have thought USA. But obviously not England. 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete. x

  2. My kind of place. 🙂 🙂 Changing the subject a little, Mick was out playing bridge last night and I indulged in a bit of TV tennis and Jane MacDonald’s cruise series. Now I’m not remotely interested in cruising and she’s an awful woman (in a good way 🙂 ) but she does go to some wonderful locations. I watched Sydney and around New Zealand for a bit of escapism (from the boxes 🙂 ) OH home and settled again?

    1. I would love to see more of New Zealand if I can face that flight again. I do believe JM is from my home town! OH home safely, tired but glad to be home ☺

    1. It is actually a lovely little store/deli alongside the restaurant. They sell wonderful artisan bread which is hard to resist. And coffee.

  3. I have made a note of that delightful venue Jude, artists and creative spirits hang out, sounds perfect for our next Sydney visit. I will google it

      1. Thanks for the link I’ve just been over for a look. Sounds interesting. Did you go over to the island? Not sure when we will next get to Sydney. Jack has a 98yo cousin that is due for a visit and a son lives there so must make the effort, if I can drag myself away from the garden

        1. No we didn’t go over to the island. We drove up to Brooklyn which is the furthest north I have been in the Sydney area. I wanted to go over to Woy Woy by train then walk to Ettalong beach and catch the ferry over to Palm Beach, but it was too hot for me to do a trip like that. The Hawkesbury river area is so interesting.
