postcard from america

Fort Lauderdale beach on a very windy and humid day

When we arrived in Fort Lauderdale after a long flight to Miami and an hours drive in a taxi from the airport to our hotel, the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort, we decided to stretch our legs and go for a short walk. The walk was even shorter than expected as we had not realised just how hot and humid it was even in September. Before we even made it to the road we decided that perhaps a nice cold G&T in the bar would be more pleasant.

Heyjude

I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

      1. It’s so funny, Jude, I don’t think of palm trees as being American, but more Caribbean. Only in Florida and the far southwest, and then in California, would we find them. I do love them, and am always happy to encounter them. 🙂

        1. I guess I have spent most of my time in the US in California! And watching a lot of American programmes/films 😀

        2. It seems you have spent a lot of time in California, Jude. Florida as well, right? Those are probably two of the few places that have palm trees other than Arizona. 🙂 And to be honest, I’m not even sure about Arizona.

  1. Ha! That sounds very similar to the hike we didn’t have this week … but for the opposite reason. It was cold and windy and ‘somehow’ we ended up in a microbrewery taste testing beer instead 😆

    1. Sounds like a good idea to me. Wet and stormy here too and I am full of cold so feeling very miserable.

        1. 😦 Not as bad as it was on Thursday, when I had a banging headache, earache and toothache all day, just wish I could get a decent night’s sleep!

  2. I haven’t been that far “down” in Florida yet. Maybe some other time. Both Mary and I would love to go to the Florida Keys.
