Day Four

The theme for Becky’s  April Squares challenge is ‘top’

    1. On Top of the World – summit, crown, peak or uppermost part of something
    2. Under the Big Top – topping or covering (or if you’re really lucky circus)
    3. Room at the Top – first or highest in position
    4. Cherry on Top – something made even more wonderful by becoming square
    5. Top and Tail – or maybe you’d prefer to play around with word combinations such as top dog, top stitch, top full, top line, top fruit, top hat, top secret, top knot, top drawer and top dollar!
room at the Top

The sparrows in my garden spend much of their time perched on top of the hedges and trees when they are not busy gorging themselves on the feeders.

April Squares | Day Four

Heyjude

I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

    1. A rather strange photo Tish, it came out looking almost like a Japanese print. Not at all sure why the faded colours!

  1. You’re so lucky to have them for quite a few years our sparrows have been disappearing, have spotted a few in the garden this week so hopefully making a recovery here

      1. ooh chaffinch, can’t recall the last time we saw one of those in the garden – fortunately lots of robins, blackbirds, blue tits, long tailed tits, goldfinches, great tits, hedge sparrows, doves, wren, thrush, and even starlings to keep me amused. Not mentioning the singular rat or flock of pigeons!

        1. Mmm… don’t mention rats. We had a young brown rat in the garden the other day, running around in circles as if looking for a way out. Terrifies the OH. So I brought the bird food in for a day or two. Living next to a farmyard is worrying where rats are concerned.

        2. Neighbours cat comes through our garden. It looks as though there is a tunnel within my walled border. I have brought all the bird feeders in again as I saw it today, unusual for a rat to be out in daylight.

        3. You need to talk to that cat, clearly not focused on its community work!

Yikes about the tunnel. You may need to do some work in your border to discourage 😦

  2. I have watched the birds around here battling for the highest perch. It must be instinct for them to want to have the best view. 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete. x
