The theme for Becky’s April Squares challenge is ‘top’
-
- On Top of the World – summit, crown, peak or uppermost part of something
- Under the Big Top – topping or covering (or if you’re really lucky circus)
- Room at the Top – first or highest in position
- Cherry on Top – something made even more wonderful by becoming square
- Top and Tail – or maybe you’d prefer to play around with word combinations such as top dog, top stitch, top full, top line, top fruit, top hat, top secret, top knot, top drawer and top dollar!
on top of the world
One of the LSBs (little brown birds). The dunnock is a small bird, about the size of a robin, which is common in gardens, parks, hedgerows, scrub and along woodland edges. Dunnocks are shy birds, hopping about in low vegetation and around the edge of lawns, feeding on small insects, worms and seeds.

Lovely capture!
He was very happy to pose there for a while.
He looks very watchful 🙂 🙂 I always wonder where they go when it rains.
Under a hedge!
Not the most comfortable option 🙂
I have always mistaken those for sparrows. There are a few in our front hedges.
Best wishes, Pete. x
They tend to stay on the ground more to feed. A bit rounder than sparrows, but difficult to tell.
That’s charming.
Dunnocks are such a lovely bird . . . just been watching a hedge sparrow, another LSB, potter around on my pots. Close up their brownness is striking
Oh what a gorgeous photo 😀
Thank you 😊
This is a really nice photo.
Thank you 😊
Lovely shot of a Dunnock Jude 🙂
One of my favourites!
Cute little fellow! Lovely image.
Lovely photo Jude. I’d have assumed it was a sparrow (which, for me, is a catch-all for little brown birds). Apparently we have dunnock here, but they don’t like the upper North Island, so I’m unlikely to see one in the foreseeable future. And I’d probably not recognise it anyway.
