How time flies. This post was for my eldest son’s 40th birthday in 2015. This year he celebrates 46 years! I guess that makes me older too.
Its plump round body, long slim tail, large black eyes and spindly legs on which it hops and bobs whilst feeding, the robin is one of our best known birds.
Known as ‘the gardener’s friend’ this little chap likes to follow the digging spade feeding on the unearthed bugs, snails and worms. A member of the thrush family the European Robin (Erithacus rubecula) with its famous bright-red breast is also known for its all-year-round song.
Woodlands, parks and hedgerows will provide opportunities to see one of these charming birds and if you want to encourage them into the garden then put out live mealworms – their favourite snack!
(This post is for my eldest son as he turns 40 on 06 February in Sydney, Australia. He is actually called Rohan, but on the telegram sent to my parents in England from South Africa where he was born it said ‘Roban’ – my parents thought there was a spelling mistake and called him Robin! So Happy Birthday Rohan/Robin xx)
This post is a contribution to Fandango’s Flashback Friday. Have you got a post you wrote in the past on this particular day? The world might be glad to see it – either for the first time – or again if they’re long-time loyal readers.
I love Mr Robin. I see many of them around the village. They sing to me and follow me along the road making me smile. Lovely post!
Thank you for visiting, glad you enjoyed the Robin 😊
You’re welcome.
I like the name story, and Robins are lovely creatures. I’d have been tempted to leave the name alone except it’s one of those boy/girl names. Happy birthday to him! 🙂 🙂
We like non-gender names in our family 😁 and it had to be Rohan as I was obsessed with LOTR
Lovely photos Jude. I love the name story, and you’ve reminded me there was some sort of mix-up with my grandparents when my baby brother was born and my dad sent them a telegram. Actually my dad has form here; apparently he announced my time of birth as my birth weight — which would have made me ginormous. 😂😂
… and we don’t age like our kids. Time slows down for us and we remain as youthful and wonderful as we remember ourselves. Happy Birth Day.
I love the story of his name, Jude!
awww isn’t this lovely – they are one of my favourite birds
Definitely a favourite. Just had a conversation with the ‘boy’. He has had a lovely day ‘at the races’ – seems unreal to me to be gadding about! As my daughter said, she’d be happy just to visit a chippy 😂
How fabulous, so glad he has – and wow to be able to go out on your Bday. I am assuming I will be having my second lockdown birthday in April, although fingers crossed I can do what your daughter would be happy doing!
Lovely robins. And I’ve learned something, not having read the books or seen the films, that Rohan comes from LOTR. I only knew it as the clothing company!
If you meet a Rohan chances are his parents loved LOTR!
I love seeing robins. At least your son has a name. When my mother was born, my grandfather couldn’t remember what they’d decided on for a middle name so he left it out. She only has a first name.
My dad couldn’t remember which name they had decided upon for me. I should have been Julie apparently! 😂
He must have been overcome by the excitement of your arrival.
