This weekly challenge is hosted by Dawn from ‘The Day After’ who invites participants to post pictures of any windows that they find curious, inviting, photogenic, or in some way tell a story. Visit her blog to see more windows and/or to join in with the challenge.
Ludlow has a lot of wonderful old houses from Medieval to Georgian, though very few from the Victorian age. There are exceptions though and this house at No 1 Dinham is one of them.
A truly amazing eclectic Victorian Gothic style with imported fiery red bricks and mechanical stonework contrasting with local materials and craftsmanship.
and here is another one, though not as eclectic, still has those wonderful Gothic windows and a rather spectacular twisted chimney pot! They may not be in the best of taste, but they are certainly buildings with character.
More windows Jude! Great ones though, and unusual character houses that remind me a lot of the Holkham Hall Estate.
Regards as always, Pete. x
( Yahoo Mail link didn’t work for some reason, but I searched on your site instead)
Maybe because for some reason the post went up first with the date I had initially drafted it on. But I have had lots of odd things happening recently with WP – posts don’t show up in my reader and I have received emails of comments from months ago!
Love that building and those windows, Jude! 🙂
Thanks Cathy, it is quite characterful. I’d love to look inside 🙂
The houses are beautiful, and they have windows that you just want to keep looking at.
Thank you Iris, they certainly have a selection of windows!
I recognised the first photos straightaway – Ludlow only being half an hour along Corve Dale from where I live in Much Wenlock. Nice to have a little bit of Shropshire featured; it has so many scenic parts.
I know the Corve Dale well Tish. Drive through that way to Shrewsbury where my MiL lives. Very scenic. There are several posts on here featuring Ludlow. Some day I’ll get around to Shrewsbury too.
Ah, Victorian Gothic…nothing like it! Bold, brash and characterful. Or, depending on your view, it is vulgar, ugly, clumsy, barbaric!
True! I happen to quite like it, though I can see why some may not 🙂
Me too on both counts! 🙂
I bet that house is lovely inside, too. High ceilings and spacious rooms. We don’t build ’em like that any more!
I’d love to find out!
I bet that little loft window up at the top has nice views. That’ll do me 🙂
The first house is opposite the castle, so I guess you’d have good views of that and maybe over to the common too. The second house overlooks the River Teme and countryside so that has nice views too. Loft rooms are nice except when you bump your head 😉
Ooo…I think I will take the second house. Thank you 🙂
I really like these gothic windows Jude, and like Jenny, would love to know what the inside of this house is like 🙂 How are things with WP going? Not too bad for me at the moment, dare I say…
Was OK yesterday – except for one blog which I still only see half the photos – weird or what? We’re a nosey bunch aren’t we? Hee hee… 😀
Oh yes…love the hee hee 🙂
