A Lingering Look at Scottish Windows

This week in Kirkcudbright — pronounced Kirr-coo-bree — I have been checking out the property in the old town, notable for its colourful façades.  Obviously an excuse to have a  lingering look at the windows.

Some are very colourful:

bright-pink
Barbie Pink House on Union Street
colourful
Pretty Blue House on Castle Street
pink-and-purple
What about pink and purple?

Some are very elegant:

elegant
Grey and White Villa
broughton-house
Broughton House

Others are unusual:

eleagant-2     unusual

And then there are those that entice you to enter:

shop-1

or just wonder about:

Local red sandstone – note the pilasters and capitals

This weekly challenge is hosted by Dawn from ‘The Day After’ who invites participants to post pictures of any windows that  they find curious, inviting, photogenic, or in some way tell a story. Visit her blog to see more windows and/or to join in with the challenge.

Heyjude

I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

  1. Some pretty good windows there Jude. Not so sure about the bright pink though! At least your trip to Scotland is providing you with fertile ground for your blog.
    Regards as always, Pete. x

    1. I never miss an opportunity for a blog post Pete. In fact I think I shall have enough for a series about benches. I have been testing them out and rating them for accessibility and viewability. Watch this space!

      1. Benches! Now you’re talking my language Jude. I love the ones with the heart-rending messages. ‘Tom Smith, a resident of Bexhill, enjoyed the view from here for the last few years of his life’. And similar…

    1. I quite agree Sue – and I didn’t even leave in the orange van parked outside. There ought to be a law against that!

  2. Great windows, all! Love the cats too 🙂 Amazing that pink, don’t think I’ve seen quite a bright pink as that for windows before. All look very inviting, I have to say. Great ‘lingering’ post Jude. I need to get back into it…
Hope you are having a wonderful time 😀

    1. The pink is slightly eye-watering I must admit. The ‘cat’ house is wonderful. Cat ornaments on every window-sill.

      It’s a cool place!

  3. Finally got around to figuring out how to get e-notifications about your blog. And what do I find? Another window fetishist, and someone who relishes benches! I’m glad I’ve connected with you on your blog. I’m partial to the bright-colour set.

  4. Oh, aaargh ! – those bright pink frames !!! How could anyone live in a house like that ?
    Others lovely, but. 🙂
