I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

I always wanted to visit San Fran. It looks very serene for Pier 39. Think it might be busier these days? π π
As I mentioned to Pete, we were there in February and it was always quiet at that time of year. Well, quiet for a major city. And this was not that long ago – 2012.
Very recent, then. Not sure if we’d ‘met’ by then. π π
I didn’t start blogging until 2013 when I decided to write up my road trips.
Can’t remember when I started. Was there a life before blogging? My dashboard tells me I have approved 83
oops! 83,250 comments. How’s that for useless information? π
If you look at the last page in your posts then you’ll see the first date, oddly enough if I look at the stats on Travel Words it says I had visitors in 2011.
OK Annual site stats provides some interesting facts.
2013 = 95 posts and 1303 comments
2014 = 241 posts and 6858 comments
2015 = 212 posts and 9903 comments (Bench challenge year, fewer posts but obviously more interaction)
2017 = 81 posts and 2160 comments.
You get a LOT more comments, but I suppose I do have three blogs on the go.
Just by coincidence I’ve been looking at old pictures of SF and Pier 39, and yes, Jo, it can be very busy there. But still worth visiting, I think. Btw, we did a really touristy thing in SF last year, the bus tour (in the evening), and we enjoyed it a lot, even if it did get very cold when darkness fell. But it was worth while.
Back to Pier 39: when we were there, we didn’t see any sea lions! We had to drive up the coast to see them.
I’ve done the hop on, hop off tourist bus on occasion, Pit, if I’ve not had much time. An evening one would be a bit different. π π
Hop on, hop off is great, too, to explore such big cities.
Looks peaceful, and belies the big city behind it.
Best wishes, Pete. x
We only visited SF in February so it was usually fairly quiet especially along the wharf.
A “Stink” of sea lions? They’re loud too.
I didn’t find these very smelly, but definitely noisy! The smelliest I have had the misfortune to be near to were Cape Fur Seals in Namibia at birthing time. I had to breathe through my mouth! What a stench!
Hey! You’ve cheated and added some sealion ‘facts’. I could have missed them if I didn’t come back looking for your Square today. π¦
Well, SOMEONE, complained last week that I wasn’t providing enough information, so I thought I’d add a bit to the post (they are all scheduled so up before I am π )
NO idea who would complain on your blog, Jude! My answer is ‘bob’, by the way. π π
Hahaha… you are so funny Jo. I like ‘bob’ too, but these are just lying around doing nothing.
A harem, hey? Love it. I think a βRaftβ is the best – when I visited they were all piled on top of each other on Little raft-like things on the waterβs edge and in the water. βRaftβ brings back fond memories of that trip.
Raft is a great one. They do seem to like piling up. I saw a ‘Harem’ in San Diego. Must fish that photo out π
Looks great!
I’d say a harem of sea lions. I like the idea of all those ladies bossing that man around. π
I have a harem somewhere. Will dig it out.
Iβll go for crash, I think. What a lovely sharp image.
A lovely clear light that visit. I think SF was experiencing a heatwave! Yes, crash is perfect.
Great post (and photo) Jude. I’ve got to go with “hurdle” because I can’t quite imagine it and I love mysteries.

Perhaps they leap over one another?
That makes sense π
I’d like to add a couple, a flop and a lollop!
Oh, yes! I like both of those.
