Life in Colour

To find out more about this year’s photo challenge here on Travel Words, please read this post.

This month we will be looking for Purple. A secondary colour made from red and blue, though you can find many different shades of purple. Try to stay clear of violet though as that will be making its own appearance. Although found in nature in shades of crocuses, lilacs, and irises look for the bruised colours in a sunrise or sunset, an indigo sea, a full moon in an inky sky. The darkness of a red wine, a rich velvet curtain or a starling’s wing.

“Colours are the smiles of Nature.
When they are extremely smiling,
and break forth into other beauty besides,
they are her laughs;
as in the flowers.”

~Leigh Hunt as Poet and Essayist (1889)

What purples can you find in Nature?

Heyjude

I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

  1. I have quite a few photos that I would have classified as purple, but now that we are distinguishing from violet, I think they may be more in the violet range. I look forward to your thoughts when I get my post together!

    1. Just a suggestion. There will be other suggestions throughout the month, but post what you want when you can.

  2. Lovely shot of the Jacaranda tree, and I am sure to participate in this challenge as Tauranga is supposedly the Jacaranda capital of NZ. This will be a fun distraction to find many more purple focussed photos.

    1. Oh, yes, please find me some Jacaranda trees although I think you’ll have to dig in the archives as they flower in the early summer (well they do in Australia). But look out for anything purple – maybe a bike?

  3. I love the jacaranda. I’ve had a few trips to Sydney in November, and seeing the trees flowering is one of the sublime pleasures of that city.
