Life in Colour

A bonus Black

This month is not about creating black and white photographs, but in finding the true blacks or greys in a colourful world.

The black swan (Cygnus atratus) is a large waterbird, a species of swan which breeds mainly in the southeast and southwest regions of Australia. Within Australia, the black swan is nomadic, with erratic migration patterns dependent upon climatic conditions. It is a large bird with mostly black plumage and a red bill. Although native to Australia there are some living in the UK. This one was photographed at the Claremont Landscape Garden in Surrey.
Do you have any Black Birds?

Heyjude

I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

      1. I’ll definitely miss it but it must be a terrific amount of work so I understand stopping. Are you taking a break or just stopping the challenge?

  1. Great photo of the swan! I saw some in Kings Park in Perth.

  2. What a handsome swan! We used to see one or two black swans at Ratho, just outside Edinburgh. None here though!
