This month is not about creating black and white photographs, but in finding the true blacks or greys in a colourful world.
The black swan (Cygnus atratus) is a large waterbird, a species of swan which breeds mainly in the southeast and southwest regions of Australia. Within Australia, the black swan is nomadic, with erratic migration patterns dependent upon climatic conditions. It is a large bird with mostly black plumage and a red bill. Although native to Australia there are some living in the UK. This one was photographed at the Claremont Landscape Garden in Surrey.
I have lived in the UK for most of my life, but when young I definitely had wanderlust and even ended up living in South Africa for several years which was a wonderful experience. I now look forward to a long and leisurely retirement doing what I like most - gardening, photography, walking and travelling.

We saw a lone black swan in amongst the hundreds of white Mute Swans at the Swannery at Abbotsbury. We were very surprised to see it there.
How odd. I wonder whether they interbreed?
The guide at the swannery said they make sure that doesn’t happen.
What a look! I did share a red-winged blackbird earlier and will trot out a few more in the days we have left. I saw in Brian’s comments you said you’re taking next year off, for which I can’t blame you, but I do enjoy this challenge. Will you be finishing out in December?

Yes, December will be the final month. π
I’ll definitely miss it but it must be a terrific amount of work so I understand stopping. Are you taking a break or just stopping the challenge?
Just stopping the challenge. I’ve run one for 2 years now.
I’ll miss it but I can imagine how much work it is.
Jude, does the black/grey theme go through Saturday, Dec. 4? I’ve lost track of how this goes. Thanks. π
It does Janet. Last colour begins Sunday 5th.
Great photo of the swan! I saw some in Kings Park in Perth.
A good capture, Jude. I couldnβt lay my hands on my black swan image, but here are some other birds: https://suejudd.com/2021/11/25/bonus-black-and-grey/
Thanks Sue, be over once I have the computer on.
Thanks!
What a handsome swan! We used to see one or two black swans at Ratho, just outside Edinburgh. None here though!
This is a stunning portrait π π
Here is my entry π π
