October Squares

The October theme offers something for absolutely everybody – a chance to share past posts, past squares and glimpses of the past. I’m going to mix it up a bit, with photos that have appeared in previous Square challenges, some that didn’t make the final and some new photos that would have done. Day Seven

Flowers – September 2017 / Pink – September 2018
Frida Kahlo – Scarecrow in Trengwainton Garden Autumn 2018

If you want to join in either daily, weekly or just on the odd occasion then please visit Becky, the only rule is that the photo MUST be a square – that is four equal sides! You have been warned 😉

Day Twenty-Four

The theme for Becky’s  April Squares challenge is ‘top’

    1. On Top of the World – summit, crown, peak or uppermost part of something
    2. Under the Big Top – topping or covering (or if you’re really lucky circus)
    3. Room at the Top – first or highest in position
    4. Cherry on Top – something made even more wonderful by becoming square
    5. Top and Tail – or maybe you’d prefer to play around with word combinations such as top dog, top stitch, top full, top line, top fruit, top hat, top secret, top knot, top drawer and top dollar!
Cherry on Top “Boo”

An old photo of my daughter-in-law with baby Lorenzo (who turns six today) chicken watching in her mother’s garden in Raglan, New Zealand and watched over by the wonderful realistic scarecrow. And for those of you with keen eyes you will have spotted the veggies under cover to protect them from the chickens.

Square September: Pink

Becky’s September square photo challenge Day 19!  She would like us to share photos which embrace ‘pink’ –  there could be pink in the photo, the subject or photographer could be ‘tickled pink’*, or indeed looking ‘in the pink’*.  A photo that manages to do all three things is the ultimate offering.

Frida Kahlo Scarecrow in Trengwainton Gardens

Frida Kahlo was an artist born on 6 July 1907 in Mexico. She had planned to follow a medical career, but a near-death bus accident when she was 18 years old left her with life-long pain and disabilities. During her recovery she returned to a childhood love of painting and went on to become a world-renowned artist inspired by her country’s culture, nature and ancient artefacts.

The scarecrow exhibition in the walled kitchen garden at Trengwainton is an eagerly awaited annual event, and this year’s theme of Inspirational Women commemorates 100 years since some women received the right to vote.

*in the pink’ means in perfect condition, or in good health, and ‘tickled pink’ means delighted.

Malala Yousafzai Scarecrow in Trengwainton Gardens

Malala Yousafzai was born on 12 July 1997 in Pakistan. Aged 15 she was shot in the head by the Taliban in an attempt to silence her championing of girls’ education. She survived and continues to be an activist for female education. In 2014 Malala became the youngest person ever to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
